Don't really get the Guentzel stuff unless they're just saying, "he's a good player, lets get a good player."

Trying to surround mediocre centers with good wingers to elevate them won't work in the playoffs. Spending your limited assets on another winger definitely wouldn't be my choice, far from it.

Going after a top-6 W instead of a 2C by the TDL only makes sense to me if the Avs finally listened to me and are going to try Drouin at 2C. :thumbu::naughty::sarcasm::popcorn:

Buffalo should trade Mittlestadt to the Avs at the deadline for a late round pick.

Then the Avs would agree to trade Byram to Buffalo in the summer for a late round pick.

Buffalo gets worse for in season and a better draft pick then they can pick up their experienced 2 time Stanley Cup champion in the summer.

For me, the only real reason the Avs would have any interest in Guentzel and actually trading for him would be because they know they can re-sign him to a multi-year contract (7X$8-$9M) and they've already decided that they are trading Rantanen because they can't afford him long-term.

If they are trading #96, I think chances are it would be after the season is over... I'd be real surprised to see it happen before the TDL. I guess anything is possible but I'd give it like a 1% chance.

Buffalo would have to have a shit ton of faith in the Avalanche front office.

While a wing may not make sense positionally and what the team lacks... it would fit with how the organization operates. They don't seem to prioritize centers.

GMs and the NHL would outrage and punish the Avs (and Sabers) heavily.

Parise can probably play another year. He should stick around for one more season if Avs don’t win the cup this year to give it another try. If we do win the cup then he can retire. He did say this is his last year though so…
If he gets close and plays well, I doubt he retires

Keeps Edmonton and Vegas from getting him.

I think the Guentzel stuff as throwing shit at the wall by the media. Teams inquire about players all the time though. JMO

Yeah, I mean who the hell do the Avs and Sabres think they are to get away with these kinds of shenanigans, Vegas ?

I'm a bit surprised we don't see more of this. Not quite this obvious, but more stealth under the table deals like this.

Guentzel would be interesting.

On the one hand, he's probably the single best player that ultimately gets moved at the deadline. So grabbing the best available player is a good signal from our GM that he's pushing all in this year both for us fans, but also for the players. No doubt Guentzel makes us a lot deeper at forward.

But the issue would be the same one we've had and discussed ad nauseum here already. It doesn't address the Center issue and would be a lot of assets lost at the same time.

It would be as clear of an indication as we could get that this management group simply does not give a shit about Centers. Ultimately we'd just have to wait and see if they can win with that mindset but I certainly know where I stand on the topic and how I would expect it to go.

If they brought in Guentzel without moving RyJo, I guess you'd be looking at:

Nuke - Mack - Mikko
Guentzel - RyJo - Lehky
Wood - Colton - LOC
Drouin - Cogs/Wags - Parise

With Landy possibly being added to the equation as well. The forward group would certainly be deeper. But IMO you're putting your season on the shoulders of RyJo giving a shit again once the playoffs start.

CMac playing 4D chess.....pretend to be interested in Guetzel to raise the price for rivals Vegas or Edmonton. And you guys thought he was sleeping all this time.

For the first bolded, I'd be pretty surprised if that was the case. They saw just as we all did - how things went prior to the acquisition of Kadri - the time when Kadri got suspended for the 2nd round and last year when we had JT2C.

[MOD]

In the end, I think C-Bus is going itself a disservice not getting a massive return for a guy who is going to be 31 this summer but to each their own.

Poor Joe - I love ya bud but.... YOU'RE SCOUTING THE WRONG SPORT!!!!!!!
Nah, Joe is thinking a thousand steps ahead. He's evaluating to see who will be the next Popeye Jones so that Avs can get a head start scouting top 3 NHL draft picks 15-20 years from now.

Then dubas comes back -> "alright Chris, you win - you got the highest bid... we'll trade you Guentzel for 3 first round draft picks".

McFarland -> "uh wrong number"... <click>
