Thats a friggin awesome chart. Overall really good period until a complete collapse.

I was somewhat optimistic even when I was worried Igor's injury might be long term. Georgiev has been adequate before yesterday's game for a few games. But he's a scrub.

If we can't score at least 2 more gos against this below average penguins D then we deserve to lose

What’s up with Trautwig? He looked horrible the last few times he was on air. He wasn’t my favorite but I wish him well.

Pidto does 150 at halftime of Knicks game too.

Anyone else going to check out Obi in the slam dunk contest at halftime of the All Star game?

3-1. Goaltending clinic out there.

One thing I would note though is that xG models don't take into account how well a player shoots the puck.

The shots on the second and third goal were probably much better than whatever average that model expects in those situations.

I still don’t get why it’s on the air. Surely they tested this with focus groups. What moron would rate that thing favorably?

can I tell you something because I work in the auto industry, Volvo specifically has put out multiple artsy ads. They’ve been the standard for safety came out with cars that stop like that for years. You know what focus groups tell them they want because I have direct knowledge on it?

“can you make some commercials where the car stops by itself and shows how safe it is???”

they fired the last creative guy who came over from google because the commercials were actually too good they had won a few awards and the friggen public hated them lol.

I think this goalie panic needs to be looked at in context here: some teams got other team's number this year. It might be Pitt with us, like we got Wash's. We will have our dud games, and they just might be all against Pitt. The thing is, this game just fell apart in the last few minutes. So it's like a turbo dud!

Quinn pulling Georgiev and calling a timeout were his two best coaching moves this season. This game is still salvageable.

How do you figure?
That isn't going to fix the holes the size of Texas in his defense.
You honestly think he's going to adjust for this next period?
Same shit..Over and repeat..

Georgiev threw this game away nothing else to say. Of course we’re shell shocked now

tore the ass right out of us

Facepalm. Lots of facepalm.

Because there are 32 starting goalie positions in the league so the average starting goalie would be 16th best. How would you have that guy as a backup? Splitting time is different that's a 1/1A by design. We did have those guys but they weren't true sustainable backups. Raanta/Talbot were good enough that they became starters elsewhere after.
The 16th best GAA among starting goalies is the average starting goalie, not just the average goalie. You have teams that will have guys who are backups who are capable of performing at the level of that average starting goalie. You have teams with backups that are better than other teams' starters. Things are all over the map with goaltending.

Whether it's because it's a time split, or as you said a situation that ultimately isn't sustainable because it's one guy who is too good to be a backup forever, or something else...the point was that you gave us only two options (a guy who is hot/cold or someone who sucks). There are lots more options for goalies as there are lots of guys in between. I would take consistently mediocre (does medicare help instead of saying average?) over peaks-and-valleys like Georgiev.
