Yeah. I hope Looch comes here for 1 day and retires a Bruin. I would prefer for all the good memories I have of him to remain good. I don't think I could emotionally handle him costing us a series, as much as I would love to see him here again.

He is, and always will be a Bruin, but it's better that his playing days here are over.

I be curious to see who DS is going to add to get them another Cup
Trade every 1st round pick until the end of time as we know it for every player In the NHL. Just send the extras to Providence and Maine. Loan whoever else to the rest of the AHL and ECHL. Guarantee that cup baby!

So... does Smith have any value? I feel like with JDB getting healthy and with Greer and Lauko fighting for spots, Smith is the odd man out. Can the Bruins get anything for him - even with retention - or is he a pure negative?

Right now he has negative value, but like basketball, his expiring contract should have a little value to someone come the deadline.

The posts with constructive and logical rationale behind not wanting looch are fine.

You people who are breaking out the “he sucks, he stinks”….man oh man are we built differently, I find it shameful

You can love Looch and still think he sucks/stinks (in 2023).

If Looch was on the veterans minimum I'd take him back at 50% retained to sit in the rafters 95% of the time. Put him in the minimum number of games to get his name on the cup should they win and call it a career.

At his current cap hit, there's no way I'd want him back, even at max retained. There are much better uses of the Bruins cap space and needs to be addressed.

Lucic for me is one of my Top 10 favorite hockey players of all-time.

He can still fight. He can still hit. He can intimidate. Put him alongside two skilled players, and he can be a complimentary piece and put up some points.

Here's the problem with Lucic as I see it.

They don't have a spot for him alongside two skilled players. Really the only place he would have here is 4th line LW as the Bruins Top 3 LW spots are completely spoken for. Not to mention they have two more left-shots playing on their off-wing now in Debrusk and Frederic. I can guarantee you Lucic cannot play his off-wing well. He'd never be able to complete a breakout of his own zone on RW consistently enough, with his skating deficiencies and taking pucks off his back-hand.

So you can forget about bringing him in here and getting any production points-wise. There is just no opportunity there on those scoring lines.

Now there are people who think Lucic could do just fine on the 4th line just hitting, fighting, and intimidating.

But define "just fine". Because while he can do those 3 things very well, there is something he can no longer do that IMO he needs to be able to do, to be trusted by his coaches on the 4th line.

Defend without the puck.

He's not killing penalties. From what I've seen of him this year, between the speed of the league now and his footspeed not what it once was, he's basically a liability without the puck, especially in his own zone. When the other team has the puck, he just chasing it and not getting much done.

I don't think you can roll out your 4th line 10-12 minutes a night if they aren't all trusted defensively. Putting a 4th line with Lucic to defend against a top line is just asking for it. This team isn't built to win like that. The coaches want a dependable 4th line they can roll out consistently, not one they have to avoid using because of match-ups.

I love Milan Lucic but I just don't see a fit here.

So much pining for Lucic when in reality Lauko would bring more to the ice than what #17 would. He's way too slow to get in on the forecheck anymore, dmen aren't going to be shaking in their boots. Puck will be gone and up the ice before Lucic can smell their cologne.

Too many people letting their emotions cloud their judgement.
Yea but lucic is good for nose surgeons. Players think twice to run at dk or mr selke . That's extremely important come playoff time.

It will never not shock me when fams can’t understand why other fans would want Lucic on the team. I mean it’s not tough to understand why Bruins fans would actually have an attachment to him, fighting and being a tough and mean hockey club. I mean they were that way for 50 years until the softening of the product intentionally.

Wow a rational well thought out post on why they should pass. These are hard to find

Pacioretty on LTIR?

In any case, if Larkin is available, shouldn’t that be the kind of player the Bruins go all in for? Especially as a future at center.
Lets hope the Bruins is one of the teams on his list

The Bruins wont be able to "highest pay" regardless

@DominicT I think there's enough Lucic talk as there's people who think he can still serve a use, there's people who think he stinks, and there's people who think the Bruins can spend smarter to help fill bigger holes. I dont think any of that needs to be debated anymore. Just a question on the double retention though. Since Edmonton retained 12.5% in the deal with Calgary, he can only be retained on by Calgary alone or a secondary team if traded full salary by Calgary in another deal. Is the highest he can be retained at by one team 50%?

For example: Toewes Chicago retains 50% and Anh retains 50% bringing him down to 2.625 million
If Calgary traded Looch to Anh straight up and then Anh traded him to Vegas with 70.0% retention at 1.575 million. Is that legal or is the most the secondary team could retain is 50%?

While we had Lucic in his prime the Bruins still suffered from cheap shots. So that doesn't compute.

Also fighting rarely if ever happens in the playoffs.
Agree look what happened to DK in 2010 against the Flyers and Horton in the 2011 SCF. I will be glad when Lucic retires, so we won't have anymore trade for Lucic posts.

I'm liking the idea of Domi...

Bruins Rumors: 3 Players Linked to Boston Trade

The Boston Bruins were in the Bo Horvat sweepstakes but unfortunately fell short to the New York Islanders. That's not going to slow down Bruins GM Don Sweeney as the team looks for another rental they could add who has potential of sticking around long term. Boston has shown in the past they will acquire pending free agents and most of the time, can get a contract extension done before free agency begins. Here's a few players the team was recently linked to acquiring via Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic:
AD

Max Domi, Chicago Blackhawks

Domi would give the Bruins another option down the middle and someone who is versatile enough to fill in on the wings if needed. He's having a solid season with the Blackhawks and if it was up to Domi, he'd likely be staying put. He leads the Blackhawks with 35 points and he's a player who has been on the team's radar for quite some time.

Nick Bjugstad, Arizona Coyotes

The towering forward who give the Bruins some more size up front. He's a pending free agent who has recorded 21 points in 50 games and could slide onto the Bruins third line. At only $900,000 against the cap, there's going to be a big market for Bjugstad's services.

Ryan O'Reilly, St Louis Blues

Blues captain Ryan O'Reilly would prefer to sign another contract with St Louis and has even admitted he'll take a discount to stick around. The Blues are going to scan their options leading up to the March 3 trade deadline, even with ROR currently injured and not expected back from a broken foot until a week or so before the deadline. The Factor can do it all and especially in the playoffs so if the Bruins landed him, look out.
