You beat me to it.

I'm guessing something around 2023 1st + Lauko + Reilly for Toews.

Chicago already has 2 firsts for 2023 and likely getting another for Kane so they might opt for the Bruins 2024 first which could be a better pick for them than 2023.

I like Lauko, but I'd do this in a heartbeat. Would love it if they wanted to 2024 1st instead of 2023 too.

In your hypothetical, it wouldn't cost Harrison to move Smith. I could see ARZ coming back and asking for something extra to take Smith though. Bruins have to make the cap work, that's they're problem not Arizona's. ARZ is going to try and squeeze everything they can out if a deal.
Any contender making a deal is going to need to dump cap in the transaction so it’s really kind of a moot point. You’re not typically paying to dump cap for this year - it’s only cap with term that costs you.

I really hope we can wrangle in Toews as our 4C......really he's our 3C because having him on the 4th line with Foligno is equal to almost every other team's 3rd line. If we can subtract Reilly as suggested above and pay with a 1st in 2023 or 2024 and Lauko, I'd do that deal tomorrow.

Smith is a guy I look to give away for a pick in the Western Conference. Should be able to net us a 3rd round pick.

Robert Bortuzzo would be a guy I'd look to get on the cheap as depth for the right side if Luke Schenn cost too much.

Last guy I'd look to grab is Jonah Gadjovich out of San Jose. Former 2nd round pick, good size, can toss the biscuits, has put up 40 goals in Junior but hasn't quite developed in the show. Was scoring at a good clip in the AHL before being called up. Could be a good 13th/14th forward depth pick up.

This is exactly the depth that made Tampa so special all these years. Of course having top end talent didn't hurt, but what separated them from the pack was that depth into the 3rd and 4th line.

Don should do anything in his power to get Toews. The guy is a proven winner and can still play. He would also be a pretty good back-up in case another center goes down.

He's on pace for 53pts in 74gp. That's a fringe 60pt production for 82 games. For his career he's played at a 30G/64P pace. If we could make the cap work I'd take Boeser in this team and put him at 3RW with Hall & Coyle.
No Brainer for me. I put him (Boeser) with Bergy and Marchand. Realistically I don't ever see it happening though as I see the bruins making depth moves first and foremost unless they can make a deal for Chychurn.

I am hoping Toews is a Bruin at the dead line he just seems like a good fit. I think he will either go here or Winnipeg . The D is a bigger question not sure as presently constructed it is ready for the Physical demands of playoff hockey. With the cap situation being what it is and team chemistry being a concern. DS may have to role the dice and hope for the best. Win or loose I expect a few moves on D before next season.

The team that will make the biggest move could very well be the Sabres. They have the cap space, assets, draft picks to make some really good moves. Going to be interesting to see how this all works out. With the Islanders landing Horvat...it's clear they're making a push for the playoffs.

Sabres would be my guess to make the next big move.

If other teams think Hall-Coyle-Frederic is silly on the 3rd Line, imagine a Foligno-Toews-Smith 4th line. I know smith probably has to go out to make the money work but god that would be hilarious if they found a way to keep him on the team for the playoffs

I could see them targeting Demko and Karlsson, last thing wed want that team to have is a legit goalie.

I am not sure Smith is a good fit for the forth line and someone has to be moved for cap space

Good call...Demko is a good target. I'm hearing Meier. Karlsson interesting.

Sabres could literally be Stanley cup contender over night...

Very interesting that people would have Toews, a playoff MVP and borderline HOF'er, on the 4th line as a checker under Coyle.
He would be sharing key face-off duty with Bergeron. He doesn't have the speed to play ahead of Bergeron, Krejci, Coyle, Nosek/Frederik. He would also be playing PP unit 2.

I'm not a fan of landing Toews ... prefer to see assets for someone with term (I believe that is what Sweeney is looking for).

How does Smith go from being waived a month ago and 31 teams passing on him to bringing back a third rounder in a trade lol.

Towes is a left shot center that is very good on face offs which is a quality that makes him attractive. I really do not think it matters how you # the lines. It is about putting out your best players for that situation. Monty certainly does not have an issue with moving his players around during games.

Wonder if we crossed blades ODAAT. Last couple years I've returned to The Forum "don't care" pick up. Wanted to be there where I skated for the very first time before the big tear down of the 96 year old building. Four generations of us on that same sheet. Its being redeveloped and with that goes a ton of great memories...
we may have , great old barn for sure

He’s a fourth liner on this team. The best fourth liner in the league, but a fourth liner.

Blackhawks fans have said he’s lost a major step the last few years. Still serviceable but not the Toews of 2013z

1st in 2023 (hopefully a very late 1st) but still a first
Prospect
Reilly or smith

And we can't get someone with term???

I like Toews a lot on this team, but I really didn't think he would cost that much. I get the retention costs a lot, and taking a bad contract back also adds to it. But CHI is no where near a playoff team. They have cap space, and will need a contract like Reilly to get them to the floor more than likely next year.

The prospect of 1st cancels out the cap dump. And our prospects for the most part are middle of the road.

So yea that's what it costs the Bruins.

In some ways term is the enemy of this team right now, unless you are talking about small money. The cap is tight this year, and it is even tighter next year. As it is they will likely need to move a good player next year just to make the cap work. So adding players with term means more players who will need to be moved this summer.
