I know the date, that has nothing to do with what I said. It was an explanation as to why they had to make a move like this.Well, it's July 26 so the "use money to improve" ship has sailed.
Anyway, during the off-season no one knew that Anthony was going miss most of the season, or Story would return to being useless, Duran & Narvaez would be hitting under .200 or that Mayer would actually regress.
And they did acquire Contreras and Durbin in the off-season.
I am pretty sure a lot of people weren't just assuming Story would replicate last year. Marcelo Mayer has shown next to nothing at this level. Narvaez not much of a track record. Maybe you're the one who thought this would be a good lineup.
Contreras and Durbin were trades, not FA signings. Durbin makes peanuts. They desperately needed another bat even if Roman Anthony was mentally stable and producing. They've been in catch up mode since the offseason after getting bats shoved up their ass by the Yankees.
