Boston Bruins 2026 Offseason Roster & Salary Cap VII

  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Since only @Coach Parker got a chance to respond before the last thread closed, I am reposting this thought exercise here:

Pasta to Toronto for the first overall pick - who says no and why?
I wouldnt do it, if there was a Celebrini type available I would but not trading Pasta for a winger that may be almost as good as Pasta best case scenario.

If we can do a sign and trade with Buffalo for Tuch, would you move Geekie and Lohrei to SJ for #2 overall?

Draft Stenberg.

Not sure those two pieces get it done alone but its intriguing. Geekie just put up 39 goals with an incredible cold stretch. Playing him alongside Celebrini I could see him putting up 50 pretty consistently.
I'm pretty sure those pieces are not even close enough. Geekie seems to be well over valuated if you think he would be worth second overall. If you want 2nd overall its McAvoy or Swayman you need to give up.

Prices are way too high. Only McAvoy, Pasta, Hagens or Dean can fetch us something great in this market. The rest would not be enough for franchise altering trade. Dont think that we can improve enough our team by trading Zacha and Geekie to make it worth.
Unless the Bruins are the team trading the established players.. but that would mean rebuild.

Great trade and signing. I wish we would do more of trading and extending players.

The issue is Hampus missed 30% of possible games since joining the Bruins. He's going into his age 33 season with 4 years left on his contract.

If they can find a landing spot for him I would at least explore it.
I would jump at the chance to move him and with the ducks and Sharks in desperate need of some d there are good opportunities out there to gain some value back

Would be ecstatic if the Bruins auctioned off Pastrnak, McAvoy and Swayman to the highest bidders.

However, we live in reality where the Bruins will toil in mediocrity because Jacobs will not allow for a true rebuild. And even if he did, what Bruins fan in their right mind would trust Neeley/Sweeney to do the job? Pork city, baby. Ping pong balls were the only thing that could have saved the Bruins, and the hockey gods favored Toronto instead.

Oh well.

Sports is a business first and foremost. Choices are always made toward that fact before any others.

I said Geekie and Lohrei.

Here's my take on Lohrei. Is he a top 4 dman, yes he is. His offensive instincts are incredible and can transition the puck. I think he will put up 50 points in this league consistently as he matures. Is he a top 4 dman on Boston? I don't believe so. Why? I think his style of play for his size just isn't a culture fit. McAvoy and Lindholm would be two guys I'd put ahead of him on the PP and we have Brunet, who's unproven but has great offensive game as well on an entry level deal. Our top 4 is missing a physical PK type of defensive dman. Lohrei just isn't that.

You take a 35+ goal scorer, 1st line winger on a very cheap contract + top 4 puck moving dman and offer that for #2.........I don't think Grier hangs up at all. May not get it done but it's a decent start

I bolded the guys who have gone 2nd overall that I wouldn't trade that package (or that package + for)

Aside from Felgeresque shit stirring, why would anybody suggest trading someone who has a Full No-Movement Clause? He cannot be traded, placed on waivers, or sent to the minors without his consent, so proposing any deal involving Pasta without considering his desire to be traded is nothing but trolling (and not very good trolling at that).

Swayman would have a significant smaller return . In fact I think the Swayman return would be far less than many would expect

At this point I don't see much more than maybe a Tuch, Zellweger, Schneider type of move. Lohrei being moved. They will pick a Defenceman at the draft and add a few plugs in free agency.

Boring so far from a Bruins perspective, but we still have the draft and FA coming up. There’s still time for things to happen.
I’ll save my frustration for July 2nd if they don’t do anything meaningful by then.

Meh, UFA's are pretty bland. Tuch & Andersson are the two big fish left. After that I don't see many "impact" guys that would come here.

I would say No at this time, just because there are no top end players as a UFA to sign, like a legit number one center or a #1A/1B dee.
I would want more than a number 1 pick for Pasta, any deal trading him needs to include one of EL or Korpi, so we can dump their contracts.

Reading this article (yes, well written) makes you realize how many absolutely terrible contracts this team has. E. Lindholm, Hampered Lindholm, Middlestat, Joki, Korps….OOF!
Not great work bringing in this bunch of stiffs. I’m guessing a lot of teams would have fired the person responsible for this.

The Hampus Lindholm signing was fine until his knee got wrecked. Nobody could have foreseen that happening but with the possible exception of Mittlestadt (who really turned his game around for the better after he got benched) you're spot on. Jokiharyu in particular, nothing about his game screamed that he deserved that contract extension.

And what was his stats before the last two years? He blew up at the right time, but consistency/confidence is an issue, even the last two seasons where he scored. First year he was terrible, sat out games then blew up after the new year scoring like crazy. That run lasted until the following new year where he started to trail off. Still better than the seasons prior to last two but still we need a consistent/confident Geekie through a whole season because if he isn’t scoring he doesn’t do much else well which is why he bounced around the lineup spent time on the third line after the new year.

You're spot on with Geekie being Glen Murray 2.0. What I fear is him losing his shot because he doesn't do anything else nearly as well.

Doesnt change the fact Lohrei and Geekie would be worth 2nd pick. Not in any universe, even if you would add Mittelstad in the package. :D

Its Pasta, McAvoy or Swayman. The only players in Bruins who actually have decent trade value.

I see us going after players like Marchment and Ferraro.
The first order of business for Donnie has to be trading Korpi, make room for MDP for next year.

Marchment would be disappointing. He's played 70+ games once in his career. Ferraro is another LHD and we don't really need more of those.

My gut says it'll cost you to trade Korpisalo. If no one wants to take him without the Bruins paying, just waive him next season.

Well bud, the guy has done nothing but score goals since he's been here. 35+ goal scorers don't grow on trees. Plus on a friendly contract as well. Maybe Geekie and Lohrei isn't enough, but after the Buffalo-Chicago deal last night, who the hell knows. The fact that you took the time to insert two laughing emoji's in here also shows me that you're a giant douche!
I’m just saying that value wise it’s way off. I don’t disagree with some of the points you’re making, but just because the hawks GM is doing nose beers and getting wasted while making trades doesn’t mean the rest of the GM are. And that last line just speaks to your character to call somebody that over laughing emojis give your balls a tug……

With the stick tech constantly advancing his shot will only get better, not worse.

Murray averaged 34 goals in the dead puck era through age 29-34. If Geekie is Murray 2.0 that would be fantastic for the Bruins.
