Idk is it worth trying to get better?
Does Carlson give them a shot at the cup?

I think he's a solid player, but at 36-37 years old, and a 2-3 year deal, is that the best use of $9-10M per year?

I think they're a top C, a top 6 forward and a #2 D away, honestly. Which is honestly quite a bit in the grand scheme of things.

Are they closer to a cup with Carlson at #2RD? Is it worth about 9% of your cap space to add some offense to one of the lowest producing d-groups in the NHL?

You need a #2D and he fit it. I think you'll be hard pressed to find a true 1C. A top 6 forward is the easiest of the 3 to acquire

Florida got better, Ottawa gained Eklund and 3 1st round picks, Buffalo got 4th overall and will likely draft a key player. Detroit kind of sucks, Tampa will add a solid D and Toronto just got 1st overall and Raddysh who's a lethal shot from the point without giving up any significant roster players. Some of those teams won't be better tomorrow, but those high picks and numerous 1st could either gain those teams a solid player via trade, or draft. Montreal is ahead of the Bruins, too.

What have the Bruins done? Where do you see them in the Atlantic this year
Two Florida teams unless of injury are in in my opinion. Right now Ottawa is worse Buffalo is worse Detroit is worse they all lost a top players Buffalo 2 of them they lost a first line 30 plus goal scorer and there second line defenseman so I don't know how you can say they are better Ottawa lost their captain he is Miles better than eklund so they have not gotten better Toronto added radish but he is not going to be anything like he was on Tampa Toronto has much weaker team McKenna is not a threat this year
We are not behind Montreal they only finished 6 points ahead of us and that was with pasta macvoy arvidson missing multiple games for long stretches
Yes we need help and I believe Sweeney will get it over the next couple weeks but to say right now that everyone in the Atlantic is adding is this inaccurate the only team that actually added was Florida the three teams were in direct competition with for a playoff spot all got worse

I think you sign Carlson if you're a contending team on a 1-2 year deal, not a team who will likely be towards the bottom of their division.

Like I said, good player but I don't think the Bruins are in a situation to maximize his value.

For fun:

Morgan Geekie
Matt Poitras
Bruins 23rd overall
Fla 2028 1st

For

Jason Robertson (trade and sign, 8 x 13)

Stars don’t replace Robos production, but they get a good goal scorer back that’s cost controlled.

Bruins upgrade Geekie. Get a 40 goal scorer who can drive a line
Seems like far too much, no?

We are 100% behind Montreal right now, lol. Both now, and the future.

Regardless, even them not getting better are most likely still ahead of the Bruins right now. Buffalo just got #4 overall in a high end draft and could potentially flip it for a guy like Knies. Ottawa has a lot to work with too, 3 firsts.

Did the Bruins get better? I think you might be disappointed where the Bruins finish this year because I can't see them ahead of Montreal, Florida, Tampa.

Are you content with them running it back and getting bounced again in the playoffs?

We're not even at the draft yet we haven't even hit free agency what are you talking about?
Everyone's entitled to their own opinion but we are definitely in my opinion not behind Montreal and I just stated last time why we finished 6 points behind them despite missing key players for long stretches I forgot to add 28 to that mix as well had they been healthy we would have easily passed Montreal
We already finished ahead of Ottawa and they got worse Buffalo was only 9 points ahead of us and they got significantly worse. You really believe the bruins are going to do absolutely nothing and not improve their team? You do know there is only a handful if that of teams that improve their teams so far to this point what has Montreal done Tampa the rangers devils Islanders I can go on and on but I didn't see you mentioning any of those teams that have not been doing anything to this point

Ok, I'll still stand by what I said. I think the Bruins might add a few bottom 6 guys, probably.

What do you see them doing to be more competitive?

Ok, I'll still stand by what I said. It was just the Bruins who had injuries, no other teams did.
Listen we're all on the same team we want them to do well I just was commenting on the post because it said that everyone is adding and we are not but Tampa Ottawa Buffalo and Detroit all as of right now r worse than they were last year and not just a little bit they lost key players tampa without hedman their number one defenseman Buffalo their number three defenseman and arguably their best forward Ottawa their Captain Detroit their captain at least the bruins haven't lost anyone of significance

Buffalo sniffing around Trochek - hope Don is monitoring that conversation. I like their prospects. Kulich++ would be interesting to me.

Seems like far too much, no?
Maybe. You have to give to get. Even if it’s an RFA on a cap restricted team.

The firsts are more than likely both later round. Poitras is behind a jam in the org. And you upgrade Geekie.

Robo has hit 40 goals+ 3 times. 2 80 pt season. 1 106 pt season and this season 96 pt. Only 27 heading into next season.

All other 31 teams would take that production. Thus the price

When you think about how much talent he inherited and the level of goalie play his teams have generally received during his tenure I really don't know how he has any fans left at this point.
Re-signing Peeke Arviddson & extending Zacha for 8 years will be a colossal blunder that surely will sway any Sweeney apologist to reality

For sure. But if the $$ is good maybe I'd like it. And if he gave you a check for 3.2 million bucks, you'd have to say he's cool bc that's a cool move. And if it rains tomorrow even if you hate umbrellas, you better use one. blah blah blah

This whole board turned into strawman arguments and being scared at hypotheticals they make up themselves.

No it isn’t, he clogs up an already clogged bottom 6.

Like what are we doing here?
I hope they give it a look (and I'm sure they have). On the face of it though Zary looks real iffy - couldn't crack into a shitty lineup and be any more productive than anyone on our 4th line. Calgarys not sure if he's a center or wing.

I mean if the Boston scouts see something Calgary doesn't then have at it, but a struggling Flames team seems pretty quick and willing to ditch him.

Food for thought: Expansion protections

Talks of Houston/Austin are heating up. Could have a new team as soon as 2028 season.

7/3/1

Pasta (Mandatory)
Elias (Mandatory)
Zacha ( mandatory, assuming NMC if resigned)
Hagens (assumed, no more ELC)
Minten ( assumed)
Geekie (assumed)
Unknown player

McAvoy (assumed)
Zadorov (assumed)
Unknown player

Sway

* Zellers, Simpson, etc not eligible for draft by ELC if on roster. My understanding is Dean would be eligible if expansion is 2029 and he burns a year at the end of this year, but would not be in 2028. Someone is welcome to correct me here if wrong.

That Elias contract and potential Zacha contract could leave little room for flexibility. Gotta imagine many agents are going to look for NMC clauses in 2028-20230 for contracts starting July 1-forward. I don’t see Zacha signing without getting those protections. If you add any sort of big name RHD or wing and the names above stay put, we are at forward limit

Just curious, did they say they’d be using the same procedure for protecting/exposing players?
