Boston Bruins 2026 OFFSEASON Roster & Salary Cap V

How do you sell to your franchise player that you're trading McAvoy and Zacha and getting prospects?

Zdeno Chara was the greatest free agent signing of all time. There arent any 1st ballot HOF defensemen hitting the market in their prime these days.

I didnt disagree with the other poster, i disagreed with you. Since the offseason Chara/Savard signed ( which is what i was replying to before you moved the goal posts ) the Bruins are a much more attractive destination for free agents. That was because of the change and work Chia put in and furthered by Sweeney. Again, not debateable. 2006 Bruins were in abysmal state.
And that, dear reader, is the only reason they did anything.

Red alert.

The gravy train was threatened.

Give the old man credit, however.

He tasked Charles In Charge -- who went to Boston College and knows what people think of his father -- with finding a GM from outside the organization.

Initially, he wanted Fred Shiro's son Ray, who I'm not even certain is still in the NHL in any capacity.

Eventually Charlie hit upon Peter Chiarelli, who was clearly the right choice.

I will take this opportunity to repeat yet again that to this day, neither Peter nor Claude Julien have received the credit they deserve for bringing a Stanley Cup back to Boston after 39 long, excruciating years.

Brunet is not ready for nhl minutes bruins need a legit top 4 right shot damn desperately

Brunet is a left shot and given your stellar track record I’d wager you’ve never watched him once

Do you ever actually gather evidence to inform your opinions or do you rub the Fushigi ball that’s been sitting under your bed the last 30 years every morning for guidance?

Serious question ,What would our three 2028 unprotected first round pics get us?

Currently three drafts away still so the value on those are pretty low as it’s tough for teams to tell how valuable they will be as a lot can change between now and that draft.

Pastrnak will be leaving his prime they probably need all the firsts they can get as soon as possible. Or trade them and try and win now with the current core?

Hard to choose I’m sure. The bruins core is pretty good and mostly in their prime.

I’m very interested to see which direction they go right now.

Will they build around the young core or get Pastrnak the immediate help he is requesting?

Is there some form of a middle ground where the Bruins can trade for Nemec and maybe MacTavish?

I just hope they pick a direction rather than just run it back

Running it back is a fear, I think many of us have.

I'm hoping Brunet is in their plans too though - but it kinda feels like that's Lorhei's spot until it isn't
Kevin Dupont made an interesting point the other day. He was on with Haggs and Colageo and they took a brief break from trying to force the Carolina Hurricanes model into their old-school view of how teams win Cups, and he said he'd like to see the Bruins acquire a D to unlock McAvoy's best game. Outside of international competition, we really haven't seen that since Grzelcyk left. I do agree with KPD that they haven't found the right partner for Mac yet, and I've been hoping they give Brunet a shot there to see if he can have the kind of chemistry Gryz had, and they can become that 5 man attacking unit we saw a few years ago.

What's a Fushigi ball?

Inquiring minds want to know.

I expect to see Peeke move on in free agency and Jokiharju as the #3 RHD.

Given the poor free agent market I can see why the B’s would consider keeping Peeke.

Hoping they can find a relatively young #2 with upside in a trade.
I would cut both loose. Recall, Joki was scratched in the playoffs *and* the regular season.

That should tell you all you need know. I hope they can unload him. I have little use for Peeke either.

Henri Jokiharju was scratched during both the regular season and the playoffs for the Boston Bruins last season (2025–26).
Regular Season Scratches
He was a healthy scratch for seven straight games starting in late February 2026 after being on the ice for two goals in a loss to the Flyers on February 28 .
There was also an earlier scratch in January 2026 versus Vegas where he was "available, but will be scratched" .
Despite these scratches, he played 41 regular-season games, recording 2 goals and 13 assists for 15 points .
Playoff Scratches
Jokiharju was a healthy scratch for the first four playoff games .
He ultimately played in 2 playoff games, with no points and a +1 rating .
So yes, he was scratched in both portions of the season, though he did appear in some playoff games after the initial four-game scratch.

Trading Charlie McAvoy is such a silly idea. Boston can't find a RD. Why would they have a better time finding one without McAvoy?
They don't need to trade charlie. Which they're not going to do anyway. He is a homegrown star and the Bruins don't trade guys like that that I can think of. Now of course someone's going to prove me wrong here, but what they need is not to move Charlie but get someone to support him.

With solid help, Charlie can do what Charlie does best, which is to roll around truck guys and score or what have you. He's got way too much responsibility right now on a very thin d line. Address the problem. It ain't going away.

It's Hampus. It's been Hampus since they acquired him and they just never run them together for any extended stretches. Rantanen even had an interview a while ago where he said that when those two are on the ice together it's the hardest D pair in the league to play against.

And who's playing on the right side for the defense?

No McAvoy for the first 6 games. Even after that, you have to add someone.

So talk to me about McTavish in and Zacha out, because I don't get it.

-His last 4 seasons he's averaged 40-50 pts, been injured in all 3.

-He's career under 49% in the dot.

-He's not going to play the PK

-But he's also not going to play your top PP. Like Minten you'll find him on PP2 probably.

-Broke 20 goals once

-We get smaller

What he is is salary controlled at 7M per till 2030-2031. This guy is definitely a Zacha downgrade at the respective C2 spots. So are people just arguing that we get 6 years younger at the spot and that's the main thing? Because we lose an awful lot in doing it. You can't want McTavish for C3 because that's Minten. And you better not want McTavish for C1, lol.

So what are we doing exactly here? If he was getting 5.5M and we were doing the Zacha reclamation style trade from years back I'd get it. But here he seems borderline fairly paid.

I miss the days when you could trade garbage like Brad Stuart, Wayne Primeau, and Sturm for…..wait….geez…

Yeah trades for #1 Centers rarely come cheap, but there was this one time…

Personally I prefer Joki. Peeke impressed me in the playoffs and the guy undoubtedly works hard but I think Joki has more upside, especially in his ability to move the puck, and I like what he does playing for Finland and hope to see more of that in Boston.

I'm not massively bothered either way and as you say the main thing is to find a top 4 upgrade, but if only one of Joki or Peeke is going to stay I'd take the former.

With Lohrei, my default position is still to keep him, but if he forms part of a good trade package that lands a better, proven defender, then I say 'thanks Mason and good luck elsewhere'. I have no real fears that he's going to break out into some kind of stud somewhere else.
He might. You never know.

I like Mason but I don't think he fits with what storm wants to do. He has a very interesting skill set, and he's not a kid anymore. I think they could get something decent for him. Teams are looking for someone with his ceiling, yet to be reached, assuming he has one, with enticing size and skill set.

I agree. Hampus & Charlie have been a great pair when paired together. I think the Bruins didn't want their two best defensemen in the same pair because they wanted each leading their own pair thus making the defensive corps go further so to speak.

I would pair them in training camp especially if Hampus' knee and foot are 100% healed. I bet it would work just fine.
