I never understood the rhetoric, originating from his interviews i guess, that Carlson was as good as gone. I always interpreted it as him really enjoying it here.
There was a lot of “they” vs “we” in those interviews.

There’s also exponentially less travel on the east coast, likely matters more the older you get.

I'll take a longshot here and say his family (wife and kids) are enjoying it here and putting undue pressure to stay. He may cave and take the Beeker's deal because squeezing out the last dollar for a guy who is already wealthy isn't worth disappointing his family. And I do believe he liked playing here.

Nurse only makes sense if we deal one of our young LD, which I suspect is the case.
If we're dealing one of our young LD, it's likely for an upgrade somewhere else on the roster which means we'll be adding assets in whatever that deal winds up being. I don't think it makes sense to trade even more assets for Nurse when we could plug in a UFA as a stop-gap until Solberg is ready.

On another note, I'm not seeing the logic in prioritizing acquiring another goalie. Husso is fine as a backup. Give him more starts so Dostal is fresh for the playoffs. Pursuing Hellebuyck sounds ridiculous to me.

Nurse won't cost much more than money to acquire, that's kind of the point in trading for him.

Spence would be a really nice add. McTavish has some links to the Sens as well

RD is a big question mark right now. If Trouba stays would still need at least one more Top 4. Luneau fights for a spot and maybe sticks. Gudas should not be considered to be back in a Top 4 role. If Trouba decides not to return or they can't find a good price, then two is needed.

Decent chance it's Trouba and Parayko?

Yuck

Trouba was bad at defense but still nicely over 50 for offense, nurse, despite playing on a team with the 2 of the best offensive players in the world, shows just how little of that offense was due to him as opposed to feeding McDavid and Draisaitl.

Not interested unless someone eats about half of that cap hit.

That was Trouba’s card when he was with the Rangers, and why he was pushed out of NY. Look at the date, it’s 2024.

Spence is small right? Hard pass

I suppose the argument would be that Trouba was able to play better once he left so why couldn't Nurse. Except im not sure Nurse has any history if being better than that current player card.

Bigger than Zell. I don't want to be allergic to players that can actually play defense

Edit: slightly taller, slightly less wt
Hard pass. The beeker and I and @Dirk316 are unfortunately allergic to undersized/and or vanilla players. We have a lot in the cupboard to play with as far as trade pieces. My guess, Colton parayko/connor Murphy/kesserling all on the beekers radar.

He would honestly be a solid move. Probably would not cost a lot to acquire or extend. He would be super stable next to Minty.

Guys like Jordan Spence and Connor Murphy are guys I would looked to acquire if more talented RHD are not available. Players like Parayko will cost too much and age out to fast. If someone like Hronek is available, different story.

I wonder if we could get Gavrikov from NY. There is speculation that he's unhappy that NY traded Panarin.

The big issue there is he plays the left. Unless Lacombe is moving to the right it doesn't really make sense to invest that much cap in another LD. Makes more sense for the Kings to move Dumo or Edmunson+ for Gavrikov I think.

Trouba and Nurse's cards at the time of trading. Kind of interesting

Trouba's card is from the middle of his 2024-25 season. This past season, Trouba's offense popped back near to his 2021-22 and his ES Corsi % of 51.8 is the highest since his 2014-15 season. Trouba produced 35 points this season and 39 points in 2021-22.

Everyone, the point of the cards was to show each's contributions at the time they were traded to show similarities between the two. This is a PSA.

I know nurse has not yet been traded, but that doesn't matter since he will not play another game before he is moved.

Hey, Pat, my two cents.
First priority-Lock up Leo and Cutter
Next priority-Decide what to do with McTavish
Shouldn't be a priority-Getting rid of young, inexpensive D to bring in older, expensive disappointing ones.

If we can't find a good RD for a reasonable price, would it be so terrible to move Zelle to RD next year and just keep him there? IIRC, he has played there before and not been any worse than on the left side. I'd rather do that than just give him away without solving the RD issue. He's feisty, has room to improve both his O and D and will be under contract at a reasonable price.

I think the Pending UFA’s will be priority, want to try and lock up Trouba before he hits FA, then move onto the Leo and Cutter contracts. But i think those will take time and he has the whole summer.

If they lose Trouba and Carlson will only have one legit Top 4 D heading into next season. Not good.

I really don't think he does. You have to have Leo and Cutter done in order to know how much you can spend to upgrade throughout the roster.

I just don't think it's enough to conclude on but hey it's a total matter of judgment.

I'm not saying I think he's 100% staying necessarily, but just don't get where the "oh, he's gone" vibes are/were coming from. to each his/her own.
