He was decent. Good defensively did not do much offensively. A few nice passes on the PP but dont think he even took a shot. He has that knack for knocking down pucks. At least 3x in the game.

He took a few shots. He ripped one just wide on the pp and took a backhand shot from the slot that caused some issues.

Feel like Yager hits the scoresheet tonight to get the confidence rolling.
Right - I remember the backhand. Was not sure it got to the net. There were a bunch of bodies in the way.
He's a really good defensive C, always on the defensive side of the puck, that won a lot of his faceoffs last night vs Finland. Covered for a pinching dman a few times, has decent wheels, and never seems out of position.
In the NHL, he'll likely need to play with a play driver/puck carrier like Ehlers, so a Perfetti-Yager-Ehlers line might be very effective as they bring different things.
Yager seems to have more offensive chops than Names, but hasn't shown that yet in the NHL, so who knows. If he was 6'2 and 200 lbs, he would have gone very high in his draft year.

He also plays in all situations, PP, PK, as well as 5on5.

I agree with this. Very Little esc. He's not going to be the one to really create for his line but he facilitates well and can finish with his shot. I think he will look really good with Cole in a fee years.

I noticed a tendency to pass rather than shoot, but he is a good passer.

What the Swiss just did re: a giveaway to SVK was so insanely / laughably bad. The only thing that would have looked worse was if the D-man had done a wrap around into his own net.

He had some really nice vision and made some good passes but I think all of use were hoping to see a bit more from him.

I haven't seen him play before so my assessment is very much just this game.
I thought he started fine and did ok in the first half of the game.
I felt he got weaker and had less success and made some glaring mistakes in the second half of the game. A bad fan on the puck trying to clear on the PK, that nearly cost a goal. A big turnover in our end that easily could have been a goal against.
To me he seemed like a defensive player with very mediocre offence.
If your offence doesn't stand out in junior then you usually aren't a top 6 forward candidate for the NHL. My assumption he would be a bottom 6 forward in the NHL if he makes it.
Having said all that it was one game and he likely felt the pressure of wearing the C.
Probably didn't have a good showing over all.
Hopefully we'll see a better outing from him in the rest of the games.

I think some are selling Yager's offensive game short, he made not be a big time scorer but he will collect points if and when his NHL career starts.
He had a good period. Was involved in most of Canada's best chances.
He's a give and go type that can get the puck into the teams play makers and find open ice. He has a plus shot that can captive on his looks.
With the creative wingers the Jets have a guy like Yager will fit in well imo.
Look at what Florida won with their 2C. A guy in Bennett who isn't that dissimilar a player.
Our top line is really underwhelming. Cowen has to be one of the most overrated players I've ever seen. Ritchie is ok but really isn't a top end center.

Canada letting the Latvian's hang around, even though they are out shooting them badly this game is a lot closer than it should be on the score board
