Yeah, my thought line when I heard about it was:
- "Is midfield really a place of need right now?"
- "Dude, we regularly start Jorginho."
I am not sure what's going on. Partey might GTFO to SA because of the rape allegations and I guess that's why he's been rumoured to be leaving for the past two years. Jorginho is still very weird to me because I agree, he plays his fair share of minutes and is a great warrior for our club, but there have been SOOOOOOOO many rumours I came across of him eventually going to Turkey or to a lower-end Serie A club that I think there is definitely smoke. I've just seen way too many to think he's going to stay for the next two years.

My issue with it is that zubi, rice and Merino are all defensive and all should warrant a starting spot. The depth needed is support for Ode and a starting striker. I wouldn’t be made if I’m Arsenal at this purchase in a vacuum because zubi is very good and will help the team. However if they closed the summer window and that’s their only purchase I’d be pissed.
Rice is being used as a BXB and to be fair, he is very good offensively. Not Ramsey level, but good enough to replace Xhaka in a similar role.

I am all for getting good players, but are you noticing a pattern? Most of the players we keep buying or being linked to are players that have the same mould as when Arteta played. CM's who are solid, but don't really have an outstanding trait or high level of IQ on the pitch. It makes perfect sense how we lack creativity and goalscorer, because neither of those were huge strengths when Arteta played for Everton and Arsenal.

Looks like Aruajo is staying and signing a contract.

Juve should fix their mistake and use that money to bring back Romero.

If he does stay and sign a new deal, so be it, but this shouldn't be forgotten. He apparently wants to leave because he wants more money, isn't considered first choice CB by the manager and/or wants a new challenge. Only one of those works for me and even still he's got enough of a challenge with us.

Depends which version you get.
The pre PSG version is very exciting. Strong IQ, quick, powerful, team player, leads by example, constant fire to progress and win.
Clumsy, and extremely bad when lacking confidence.
He didn't fit Enrique's team because he's not the greatest technically.
It was a bit rough for him because he really never had a chance to prove himself.
He was bought to keep Mbappe happy but I think Enrique wanted neither.
He was such a joy to watch when with Frankfurt. If he can recapture any of that form...

Hopefully we get the good version because we have zero strikers after Vlahovic. Half the time, you don't even know which Vlahovic you'll get get.

I'm all for getting rid of Partey, and have been, especially if we can actually get money for him. He's now actually starting to partially become the player he was once again, but obviously the off-pitch stuff is not what you want, and the level of play can't be expected to hold up. Jorginho battles hard but he's at an age where that's not going to hold up by any stretch of the imagination. In another league he could still squeeze something out though, sure.

Rice I remember when he and Souček were next to each other, there were complaints that Moyes would push Rice into the more offensive role whereas the opposite suited Souček better. That's just to say, there were clearly arguments to be made he was not just for the defensive side of things.

As for Arteta and his taste in players, I can't too much comment, but definitely there is a preference for players who don't just fit a single mould but are versatile, and I'm generally down with that sure

If Lewis-Skelly keeps playing like he did today, then midfield becomes less of a need again. 18 year old CM playing out of position at LB most of this year and absolutely pocketed Kulusevski today.

Davies to Real is getting more and more legs it seems
When did this not have legs? This wasn’t quite as a foregone conclusion as Mbappe but it’s pretty close to that. This is like worst kept secret territory. Davies and Trent at fullback will be fun for Madrid next year

It's always had some legs but it's been up in the air at times.

Real Madrid had apparently cooled on him during the summer and there were some doubts that the clubs interest was still there. As recent as last week there were reports out of Germany that he was close to an extension with Bayern. Now that could be some posturing or a leak from his camp to a better financial package, or it could have some truth to it.

Not having that he was ever going to do anything else.

Is it even a huge loss in that case, though? Is Gravenberch not doing everything they would've wanted from Zubimendi? Midfield seems to be the part of the pitch that Liverpool are most set, only needing depth options (which Zubimendi wouldn't be, and I don't think will be at Arsenal if he goes there).
Gravenberch is a different type of Midfielder but yes Gravenberch but I will also add Morton/Endo as sufficient depth at Midfield. Weaknesses are LB and depth at CB.

Slot has basically switched Endo to CB because he hates him in midfield (Endo pretty good at CB though which is nice) and doesn’t trust him there. This is probably because Slot needs more technical ability in double pivot than Endo provides. Morton has played as many minutes in the premier league as you and I have so I don’t think there is any evidence that he counts as realistic cover either. They need to do something there.

Left back is a disaster. Tsimikas had taken the job from Robertson, but then Tsimikas got hurt and is still working his way backs I wouldn’t be surprised if neither are on the team next year. But whoever they get at LB probably depends on if Trent stays or goes. If Trent stays that’s where you you probably try to get a guy like Kerkez if Trent goes, you need a different skill set because Bradley is going to be doing the wide stuff so they’d need more of an inverting guy. We know Slot likes Miguel Gutierrez and he would be a fit for that (if we aren’t afraid to negotiate with CFG). CB depth is a joke and that needs to be fixed immediately as well. We are too injury prone to only have those four guys back there. I’d call Joel Matip back in just to get another body. We’ve already rushed Konate back and he looks way off it. Gomez return isn’t close. Quansah doesn’t resemble what he did last year. So yeah they just need to find a way to get a body in.

Said it weeks ago but LFC mishandling this month is going to torpedo their season. They need a shot in the arm ASAP. While the 14 points they’ve rescued from losing positions is nice, it really looks like the off field uncertainly and preventable lack of squad depth has reared its ugly head. Again. Arsenal getting Zubimendi is just reminding me of when they signed Alexis Sanchez. That’s going to give them a boost. Their injuries don’t matter because they have the Tush Push. LFC need to get their heads screwed back on and fast.

FSG excuse to not spend was always that they are competing against state owned clubs like Man City. This year, this excuse is out of the window, their main rival is Arsenal who are willing to spend to the max they are allowed to. LFC make more revenues than all other EPL clubs with the exception of Man City (with their cooked books) and Man United all other clubs are making less. They have the money available but they refuse to use it even though the EPL is very competitive and that small margin in player quality could make all that difference. If they lose the title, again, 'sigh' it should be a sign for FSG to sell their asset, enough is enough. There are bottom of the table clubs with more ambition than them. For instance, I just saw a video of the Nottingham Forest owner encouraging their player one by one after the LFC game. That is a proper owner that care about the club he owns and the product on the field.

FSG, on the other hand, are never at the game and they don't even care about the results of the club. They just show up at 1 or 2 games per season and some finals.
