Yeah, my thought line when I heard about it was:
- "Is midfield really a place of need right now?"
- "Dude, we regularly start Jorginho."
I am not sure what's going on. Partey might GTFO to SA because of the rape allegations and I guess that's why he's been rumoured to be leaving for the past two years. Jorginho is still very weird to me because I agree, he plays his fair share of minutes and is a great warrior for our club, but there have been SOOOOOOOO many rumours I came across of him eventually going to Turkey or to a lower-end Serie A club that I think there is definitely smoke. I've just seen way too many to think he's going to stay for the next two years.

My issue with it is that zubi, rice and Merino are all defensive and all should warrant a starting spot. The depth needed is support for Ode and a starting striker. I wouldn’t be made if I’m Arsenal at this purchase in a vacuum because zubi is very good and will help the team. However if they closed the summer window and that’s their only purchase I’d be pissed.
Rice is being used as a BXB and to be fair, he is very good offensively. Not Ramsey level, but good enough to replace Xhaka in a similar role.

I am all for getting good players, but are you noticing a pattern? Most of the players we keep buying or being linked to are players that have the same mould as when Arteta played. CM's who are solid, but don't really have an outstanding trait or high level of IQ on the pitch. It makes perfect sense how we lack creativity and goalscorer, because neither of those were huge strengths when Arteta played for Everton and Arsenal.

Looks like Aruajo is staying and signing a contract.

Juve should fix their mistake and use that money to bring back Romero.

If he does stay and sign a new deal, so be it, but this shouldn't be forgotten. He apparently wants to leave because he wants more money, isn't considered first choice CB by the manager and/or wants a new challenge. Only one of those works for me and even still he's got enough of a challenge with us.

Depends which version you get.
The pre PSG version is very exciting. Strong IQ, quick, powerful, team player, leads by example, constant fire to progress and win.
Clumsy, and extremely bad when lacking confidence.
He didn't fit Enrique's team because he's not the greatest technically.
It was a bit rough for him because he really never had a chance to prove himself.
He was bought to keep Mbappe happy but I think Enrique wanted neither.
He was such a joy to watch when with Frankfurt. If he can recapture any of that form...

Hopefully we get the good version because we have zero strikers after Vlahovic. Half the time, you don't even know which Vlahovic you'll get get.

I'm all for getting rid of Partey, and have been, especially if we can actually get money for him. He's now actually starting to partially become the player he was once again, but obviously the off-pitch stuff is not what you want, and the level of play can't be expected to hold up. Jorginho battles hard but he's at an age where that's not going to hold up by any stretch of the imagination. In another league he could still squeeze something out though, sure.

Rice I remember when he and Souček were next to each other, there were complaints that Moyes would push Rice into the more offensive role whereas the opposite suited Souček better. That's just to say, there were clearly arguments to be made he was not just for the defensive side of things.

As for Arteta and his taste in players, I can't too much comment, but definitely there is a preference for players who don't just fit a single mould but are versatile, and I'm generally down with that sure

Yeah, they're vanilla. Good at everything, great at nothing.
