Gourde + McCann would be kind of perfect. Gourde fixes 3C. McCann is the goal scoring wing we desperately need. Only issue is this leave Mitts at 2C

I mean I don’t disagree, but at the same time there aren’t a whole lot of options out there. Older 2Cs like ROR and Schenn or 3Cs like Gourde.

The only floated name I’ve seen that is younger and probably available is Donato, and you’re gambling on this year not being his career year because he’s playing for a contract.

Gourde has 3rd line production at this point in his career BUT if you can't swing a deal for Nelson, then IMO you:

1) Keep Mittelstadt
2) Try to swing a combo McCann + Gourde deal

I imagine retention plus someone like Wood have to go the other way along with picks/prospects but

Lehkonen - MacKinnon - Nichushkin
McCann - Mittelstadt - Necas
Drouin - Gourde - Colton
Kelly - Drury - LOC

Is a mighty fine forward corps

O'Reilly has played for 5 teams and 8 head coaches. His worst season beyond years 1/2 was in 2023 (30p in 53gp) when he was dinged up all year. Which was still a slightly higher scoring pace than Mittelstadt is on this season. Point is he does well everywhere, you don't need to carefully manage his linemates or system to get him to succeed.

He's not my first choice but the guy is on pace for 55 pts (39p in 55gp) on the lowest scoring team in the NHL. His skating might not be great but IMO the reason Mittelstadt is stinking up the joint is partially fitness related. Dude looks totally gassed skating to the bench every shift and it's leading to boneheaded turnovers all over the ice.

I would love O'Reilly, he's been one of my favourite players since he debuted in Colorado but I feel like both sides wouldn't be open to him playing here.

I don't know that management would pursue him, nor do I believe O'Reilly would want to come back.

Still need at least a solid 3rd liner and a good 3rd pairing Dman. Otherwise they are not serious about competing. That's completely doable, although bigger moves would be more ideal.

We don't know for a fact that the relationship is that fractured, and the guy largely responsible is no longer in the organization.

It's prudent to explore all options though. For me the player, the AAV, and term make him the best option if you are going to send out high end future assets.

I'd at least check in on the price and have the conversation with all parties.

Moved on from Stamkos as we moved on from Mikko.

Do you think it’s possible that JB hated on Pars and didn’t use/showcase him because he knew CMac would likely use him in a trade? IOW, CMAC parked an asset that he could use later in a trade and made JB aware of this. Quick, someone tell me I’ve gone down one too many rabbit holes.
