Nah, 3RD and 3RW aren't necessary for "a realistic chance"--have you seen the West lately?

There's very little the team can do outside of acquiring Crosby that would make them favorites in the West, but I think even with the roster as currently constructed, there is still an outside chance if healthy, coke-free, and players play to their level
I highly disagree.

In 2022, the Avs traded for Lehkonen for their 3rd line. Changed the entire dynamic. Because when Burakovsky went down, Lehkonen picked up the slack.

That year, we had Rantanen, 60 point Burakovsky, Landeskog and Nuke as top 6 wingers.

The AVS should add Nelson and another top 9 winger. They won’t, because it’ll cost too much. But that’s what they need IMO to make a legit run.

I'd be ecstatic if Colorado added Bjorkstrand to the 3rd line.

Adjacent discussion, but I have liked the Colton/Drury/Kivi third line that was assembled two games ago. Unlike Wood, who is more of a banger, Kivi is more of a grinder who's really good along the boards. He's strong at retrieving the puck, which is why I think we've seen promising (small sample size) results from that line; 71% corsi (27/11) so far, along with the 2 goals.

Colton drives me nuts with his effort, but he has 15 goals and Kivi has 11. That's not horrible third line production (as long as we don't compare to the Gold Standard in Dallas).

The last thing the Oilers need is more forwards.

Every last asset they have should be used to upgrade defense and goaltending. Not add to an already deep forward corps.
Can't have too much sandpaper for a deep playoff run.

isn’t acquiring another RD just as, if not more important than RW, in terms of getting sufficient depth?

Bednar would lose his shit if the Avs got him.

I do like that the Avs finally separated Wood and Colton because it clearly wasn't working and put Kiviranta there. That puts one banger with some finishing ability with a good defensive winger capable of puck retrieval on the other side. Balances things out nicely. It's not an ideal solution but probably the best one under the circumstances.
