I am québécois and I am always an always quick to recognize players from chez-nous that deserve it, but Gauthier has no business being there over Sennecke and Misa. Cataford if you forget his past history with hockey Canada is somewhat more justifiable, but Gauthier feels like a nepotism pick for someone whose father is extremely involved with the official hockey Canada broadcaster and the LHJMQ

The usual idiotic decisions by HC. Not even inviting Yakemchuk, Iginla, Parehk or Sennecke should get people fired. If they have a bad camp and get cut fine but not even an invite(also that small of a camp roster) is beyond stupid. There's other guys who also should've had invites over some of these picks but those 4 along with no Misa isn't a justifiable thing
Also Ivanovic over Ravensbergen and no DuPont is a choice.

All the good players everyone wanted to see left off the camp roster is crazy.

No, they're not better defenders than anyone on the roster, lol. They can score though.
The gap between their offense and the guys taken over them is far bigger than the gap defensively. Pair them with responsible LHD and reap the rewards.

This is the same thinking that got Makar played as a 7th D in 2018 despite being over a PPG and by far our best player.

Yakemchuk is the most interesting omission imo. One would think they would at least invite him to camp to throw a bone to the long-suffering Sens fans, who if nothing else would enjoy seeing their top prospect play on home ice.

To me, Parekh was a binary choice. Either he's in, as a core part of the team, or he's out. Turns out its the latter. Remember that he was suspended last year for spitting at/on another player. Perhaps questions about his character were the deciding factor there.

Misa and Sennecke are fairly inexcusable imho. I'm a 67s fan and watch Pinelli play most games, and he's in a lower tier of player than both of the omitted players. What Pinelli does have is a lot of bite to his game for a smaller player (and one helluva shot), which may be an indication of where Canada is heading with some of the depth pieces.

As I mentioned a few posts back, we are the only hockey nation stupid enough to not even invite 4 of top 9 picks in the 2024 draft, and a potential number 1-3 pick in the 2025 draft, to attend it's training camp.

I don't give a damn about age, inviting Howe, Pinelli and Allen over so many guys is completely asinine. I don't care if they win the tournament, this decision making is inexcusable.
I actually think every nation has enough of an old boys grit and toughness and intangibles network to do so, but Canada is usually the only nation with the talent for it.

Every year:
Posters on this board chew on their fingernails for days leading up to the release of the camp roster
Hockey Canada releases their camp roster, which omits a few draft-eligible stars, one or two high-scoring talents and maybe a couple of guys who are in their last year of WJC eligibility
Posters on this board FREAK THE HELL OUT because of the omission of this guy or the inclusion of that guy
A few guys complain about nepotism/favouritism/old boys club/love of root vegetables
A few other guys say declare the team has no chance and could even miss the quarterfinal (TBF, that last one hasn't happened yet)
One or two guys say they're going to cheer for someone else because of Hockey Canada's corruption/incompetence/idiocy/love of root vegetables

Everyone on this board needs to relax. There is a solid roster there, good enough to compete for gold. Tournament hockey is often a game of bounces, so maybe crash out in the quarters or get goalied, or maybe they brawl in their second-last game and get thrown out of the tournament.

And at the end of the day, it's just a game. The sun came up the day after Canada lost in the quarter final last year. There's a pretty good bet the result of this tournament will be the end of the world.

I don't agree at all, their offense is completely unnecessary, they're both puck-dominant dmen that would barely have the puck at this tournament. Dickinson and Molendyk will drive the offense from the back end.

This x100. If the powerplay is struggling mid tournament or they need some offense, I would much rather have the option of calling Yakemchuk off the bench than whatever stay at home guy they'll inevitably take. As you mention, it is not like his defensive zone play is that much worse than those selected.

Makar was a main reason they won in 2018, despite Ducharme's best efforts to leave him on the bench.

Akey, Brunicke, Gibson, Allen, and Mynio over Parekh and Yakemchuk is nasty work.

HC never fails to amuse that's for sure.
One can question some of the selections and omissions but HC’s decision to not select Parekh shows at least some level of insight. Opposing teams at the WJC would have gone around and through Parekh like sh*t through a goose.
