Meh.Deadline 2022? I think... #3 for Portillo was an 'other kind' and worth the gamble.
Remember how stoked we were we "stole" Petersen from Buffalo?
Meh.Deadline 2022? I think... #3 for Portillo was an 'other kind' and worth the gamble.
I like the idea of Gourde for that role. But does Seattle make the trade to LA for a second?Judging by Blake’s acquisitions this summer, he will be looking for playoff-tested players.
Yea Colorado can trade Rantanen because they cant get him signed but Blake cant trade Matt Roy. Hell lose Gavrikov for nothing also.Almost exactly what I came to post
we're here bickering over how the Kings are bleeding out offensive assets because they don't know what the f*** they're doing to the extent that Kaliyev is a relatively hot-button issue, and the Kings were so high on their own supply they wouldn't trade guys like Roy, Walker, etc. despite their heir apparents being behind them AND dips in their play
This, right here, is the difference between the real contenders and the f***ing incompetents in LA.
They did trade Walker.Almost exactly what I came to post

Because they had cratered his value. He was taking time to get back from the knee issue and sold low. Others knew once he was back up to speed he’d have value. They did trade Walker.

Do you think they dont have tier 1 forwards or they just dont allow players to play very offensive to their ceiling? Vilardi is a top line rw and on the powerplay. Here he was in the bottom 6 until his last year. Dubois was in the bottom 6 here and now hes a 1c. If they traded Byfield tomorrow wed be crying next year that hes a 1c and Kings are still running Kopitar. When they trade Turcotte at the deadline this year hell be a good 2c and well complain that were still running Danault.I would give this team 2 weeks...the 5 game trip and 3 at home. 8 games. How the team is with Drew and Laf back. I'm calling Gav's agent after the trip and asking where his client is at...if they want to sign.
If the Kings are 4-4 and still cannot avg 2.5 goals a game, I'm looking to deal.
If Moore and Danault each have 1 or 0 goals next 8, I am beginning to scratch them. Esp Moore.
He honestly should wear a red jersey. He's not involved, not working hard, not hitting anyone,
weak battles with his stick. Something is wrong with him. This team is not going to win in the playoffs,
with Moore, Danault, Lewis providing zero offense. Yeah, not Lewis' job, but the Kings record is terrib;e
with him. That alone should get him sitting some.
So to your point about Sakic getting a good deal for Rantanen and Blake not getting anything for Roy and
giving Gabe, Iafallo, Kupari and Durzi for PLD, for that matter...the Kings have dug a hole, effectively losing
Gabe...a top RW in the NHL and not replaced him. So if the Kings are buyers and get a Rackell, Zucker,
or even Lee...it's giving up assets for a player less than Gabe is. A net LOSS.
I think it's best to miss the playoffs and trade Gav for a #1 + good prospect and trade Moore.
If someone would take Jeannot, trade him too. There's 12-13 million and would earmark that for
Rantanen, or a tier 1 star for offseason. (and 2.1 M gone of Provorov's)
I hate losing Gav, but this team now has 0 tier 1 forwards...
at least outside of Kempe. If you look at the building of this team last 12+ years...how many tier 1 forwards have they drafted / developed? 0. Unless you count Gabe; a tweener tier 1 / tier 2.
QB is tier 2 and I am now doubting he's ever tier 1. He can bust it all he wants and always has most plays end without having a dangerous scoring chance. He certainly is not a goal scorer. I don't think he replaces Kopitar, at his level of being a dominating 2 way center for 15+ yrs.
And deals; When was the last time the Kings acquired a #1 forward? 2012. Jeff Carter. 13 years ago. Sad.
I would call Gaborik a tier 2 acquisition a tier 2 level player at his age...BUT, one that helped win thr 2014 cup. But. he was not for the future and that's ok. But other deals? Fiala? tier 2. PLD? tier 2. The Kings have 0 tier 1 forwards, drafted / developed or in trades / signings in 13 years. This is FAILURE. This is why the Kings cannot win a round. If they had an avg of 3 tier 1 players developed / dealt / signings in last 10 years,
you're winning in the playoffs, with this main corp...now more like corpse.
Danault could hang for 2+ yrs as a #2 center, but no longer. Moore has become less of a player and threat than Akil Thomas. I honestly think Akil could do more, with the ice that Moore gets. Akil has not been great and he's not the answer, but playing him once every 8 games for 6 mins on line 4 is not good for anyone.
So, if this team is in the playoffs and you're adding: Rackell, Zucker, Lee...? You're going nowhere.
Not with Moore and Danault at their current level.
I think best to miss the playoffs and deal Gav, Moore, Jeannot. Have 2 #1's for the draft in LA. I have seen Cam Robinson's, Pronman, Wheeler and others takes on the 25 crop and it's not bad. If the Kings were to get 2 more 18 yr olds. of Greentree's ability, I'm for it. Replacing Gav is a big hole, but a tier 1 forward is the elephant on the ice.
This is LA. Where Lakers get lebron in his prime...the Dodgers get Ohtani in his prime and add a bunch of other 30 million dollar players....and the Kings can't get 1 teir 1 talent the last decade. Yeah, it's not about stars, it's about winning and winning championships. But, I watch these home games and they're boring...the goal is to play stellar defense and win 3-2, 2-1 and not get into shootouts...they'll lose.
LA doesn't deserve a team with 0 stars. People in LA want to see the best, or top talent. The Kings offer nothing. You see about 200 firemen show up and honored...after probably working fires 80 hours a week and then are treated to a shttt show 6-1 boring loss? I bet they'll never go to a game again. And bet many wondered why they wasted 4 hours on that.
If the Kings are making target lists, without Rantanen, Tkachuk, Barzal, Suzuki, or even a Forsberg level talent....they suck and are short sighted I'm sure their list has a bunch of tier 2s and fillers.
I'd make everyone available. If I'm keeping anyone, Clarke is #1 on my list. He would already be 1 pt per game (on a terrible offensive team), if they weren't neutering him. He had apx 18 pts the first 2 months and then you're seeing his ice go down 5 mins and off PP1. Last game, he goes out and makes that goal happen, He's capable of doing that all night, but they don't let him. He honestly creates as good or better than Quinn Hughes. And I'm serious. Not quite Makar level skating, goal scoring, of course. He's going to be a monster...unless the Kings hold him back.
Gav's spot? Yeah. I'd rather fill that with a veteran (better then Englund / Burroughs) with even Kirsanov or Booth. Booth is going to be a good one....what I am more worried about replacing Gav, is replacing Gabe they lost and can't replace....the Gabe where he is now playing. We knew he would become pt / game player. Oh well. And Kopi has not been replaced. QB ain't it!
On a good note, I'm loving the 2 Alex's and not loving the 2 Trevor's.
Turcotte and Laf will both be 50 pt players and very valuable.
Put Laff with Moore and Danault and expect 1 goal every 10.
Put him back on PP1 AND Top 6, you'll be getting 25 goals and 50 pts.

Thomas was ripe last year scoring goals and they scratch him for the rest of the year for Grundstrom who isnt even here now. He doesnt have confidence anymore.
When most of the players arent reaching that offensive level here the organizational system is more to blame than the players.
They didnt give Vilardi a real chance until he was 5-6 years in the system. Dubois earned nothing last year. I will not stick up for the guy. However if the Kings put him on the top line with Kempe from day 1 maybe things turn out different.Again, disagree on that take Vilardi had the offense here before he was traded....are you saying he wasn't scoring here in LA? Or is the argument that he took a while to get the scoring? If it's the latter, well...yea, that's what happens a lot of times, young players come in, get acclimated, then get going, it's very rare you have young players come in, and lead the league in scoring, or the team in scoring. PLD, are you saying his play last year dictated he should be in the top 6? Why? What about his play last year in LA showed you that?
If it's the system, explain Moore and his 30 goals, Kempe and his 41....

Kempe was a pick by the previous regime who said himself when he broke out it was because he was given the opportunity on the top line with minutes. Byfield got it last year and Turcotte is showing some stuff this year with that same opportunity.
Moore is actually a kind of guy that the system works for. He found his game under Todd. He worked hard from the bottom six for the opportunity to move up and it was actually perfect for his playing style. He was very much a lunch pail type with good enough hands to capitalize on all the chances they were grinding out. For some reason hes forgetting his lunch pail this year and in turn not finding himself in the areas to score.
Vilardi played 56 games for the Kings in 20-21 scoring at a 0.5 PPG clip (despite prob you and many others writing the guy off to never play in the NHL, another dumb Blake pick). They didnt give Vilardi a real chance until he was 5-6 years in the system. Dubois earned nothing last year. I will not stick up for the guy. However if the Kings put him on the top line with Kempe from day 1 maybe things turn out different.

He was sent down after that for a while. His line was I think late stage Carter and Athanasiou and they werent a great line. Thats a long way from playing on the wing with Kopitar and Kempe and pp1.Now...think long and hard why it took Vilardi 5-6 years......to get a "real chance"
Not to mention, did they not slot him in as 2nd line C....in his 2nd year and he didn't perform?

Want nothing to do with Marner, his contract and his dad.Gavrikov and Fiala for Marner. With Doughty coming back, Moverares emergence, and Gavrikov having a career contract year, I think this makes sense if Toronto wants to pull a Rantanen. We get rid of Fiala and make room to sign Marner long term.
Want nothing to do with Marner, his contract and his dad.
I am all for trading Gavrikov. In my opinion Doughty comes back and fills his role and adds more offense.
Gavrikov brings back at least a first and clears cap space for a TDL pickup in an area we need, like right shot winger. Would be nice to find a right shot scorer with term.
I know the team is into win now but we have to consider the fact that other, better teams will be loading up. All teams have flaws but we cannot score and no matter how many goals we prevent we still need to get on the board.
This team also has to get out of the belief that the veterans lead the way. In the AHL the pups sit on the bench while non NHL vets suck up the PP time. In the NHL we have guys like Kaliyev on the 4th when Danault is on the PP, Byfield riding pine in OT where he would thrive, Lewis in every game while Thomas rides the pine (at least rotate Thomas in).
Long story short, this trade line can be about win now, but it has to be something that helps our future.
Kempe, Byfield, Turcotte, Laf, Helenious, Clarke, Spence and Anderson are the future. Yes Kempe will need to be re-signed and expensive but he is just hitting his peak and yes he will be older but we also need vets. Not sure why a Byfield Kempe, Turcotte line hasn’t been tried. Speed aggressive and talent. Oh ya we are catering to the vets.
Kopi and Doughty are legacy. Kopi will be a forever King and I love him but we can’t sacrifice everything to try and win it now for him. If he retires a King I am happy but if he wants a cup we just saw top tier, top money players change teams last night. Imagine Kopi on the Avs. Doughty on the Leafs.
I don’t want to sacrifice the future by bringing in guys like Toffoli, Rakell, Palmieri.
We already gave away Vilardi and Faber doing this.
Let’s build for the future. Trade vets for picks and prospects then go after young long term guys like Cozens, Powers, Bryam from Buffalo as an example. Still capable of win now but extends the future. We need to build the talent level.
I don’t want Blake doing anything. His deals are putting the kings back years. Best prospect pool in the league is now crap. Let’s just let this year play out. If they flame out fire Blake and get a guy with a clue.Fiala, Kaliyev talk is out of hand.
Blake lost assets to competition and players that remained progressing and fostering team success.
Need to wait until as close but not too close to deadline and see if any major cogs get injured.
Otherwise I said it last week, an upgrade in goal instead of riding an overperforming veteran against the Edmonton Groundhogs may be a lesson learned.
The way Vegas is playing is also a concern maybe the way is to hold those picks and prospects.
Look at Spence's D, Laferriere , Turcotte this year.
However Blake's job security may force his hand to make a move.
The French Connection can also f things up or at least add to pressure.
Wait and see, monitor.
Completely understand the sentiment and to your point, BLuc f ucked up the rebuild that would have almost certainly resulted in a cup contender just with Vilardi, Faber and those picks.. they Should have traded Roy and should trade Gavrikov but they won’t since the thunderbird and Cisco have BLuc thinking they’re contenders.Want nothing to do with Marner, his contract and his dad.

Yes totally agree, but defense is our biggest strength. In my mind Doughty is better than Gavrikov on both sides of the puck so even trading Gav we are still better post Drew than pre Drew if that makes sense. Doughty just takes Gav’s spot with Mikey and all else stays the same. Here's the thing, you can trade Gavrikov for futures and get something back, because we have Doughty coming back and slotting in, that doesn't hurt the playoff push.....that's the main difference between now and Roy
