Speculation: 2025 TDL Discussion

I'd see if the Predators would trade Ryan O'Reilly. Two years left on his contract, and the Preds are down bad.

Turcotte - Kopitar - Kempe
Byfield - O'Reilly - Fiala
Moore - Danault - Laferriere
Foegele - Thomas - Jeannot

FWIW, it was mentioned this past weekend on HNIC segment "After 40 Minutes" that even though ROR has no trade protection, the Preds are going to treat him as if he has a NMC and it would take a very substantial offer to move him. Apparently teams have sniffed around.

He seems like a good leader type/character guy but not sure I'd be all that interested in him.

OT - Don't post on here with as much frequency as I used to, just wanted to say stay safe ladies and gents. Heartbreaking to see whats happening there. Thoughts and prayers.

Woah or what if they added one of Bjugstad / Stenlund AND Claude Giroux (50% retained)???

Mock trades:
Trevor Moore and a 2025 3rd round pick to OTT in return for Claude Giroux (50% retained)

2026 4th round pick to Utah for Kevin Stenlund

Turcotte - Kopitar - Kempe
Foegele - Byfield - Giroux
Fiala - Danault - Laferriere
Jeannot - Stenlund - Lewis

Anderson - Doughty
Gavrikov - Clarke
Edmundson - Spence

Kuemper
Rittich
Can't believe we're just glossing over the fact that I solved the Kings TDL dilemma. They do this ^, they win cup... It's that simple.

I Dan'ault but Kuemper was a big upgrade and the defense has been unbelievable with DD out.

Best shot is to reunite Jeannot with Byfield and Foegle.

Moore, Fiala , Danult.

Hiller's first full season and he is doing well.

Bergevin and Robitaille need to stay out of it.

I have no faith in the constant criticism clowns posting here as whatever they say is eventually

proven wrong and they are on a blistering streak right now.

Look at teams like the Sabres or Ducks its not as easy to build anything substantial.

Even Colorado only won once in recent years and they are stacked.
It's Blake's unforced errors that got me. Like the Cal Peterson contract followed by dumping Walker & Grans, to get out of 3 million of it. Dumping assets because of mistakes. Too many big screwups.

Team needs a fresh perspective from a GM with some sort of scouting experience. Blake's inability to judge talent & fit, is costing the Kings.

Edit: The team is playing well, but we have Blake making decisions on adjustments going into the trade deadline.

Bro this isn't NHL '25 on playstation. Ottawa is 1 point out of a wildcard, Why would they trade their 4th highest scorer when they are trying to make the playoffs.
He also has a NMC, what if he has an irrational fear of fire?

Ottawa are frauds and will find themselves comfortably out of a playoff spot by the TDL. Giroux is 43 years old and will gladly waive his NMC to join the Kings and have another shot at the stanley freakin cup.

Don't think , even for a second, that I didn't notice that you completely glossed over the possibility that Giroux might have an irrational fear of fire.....

Yeah great. Can’t wait for GM Bergeron or GM Emerson.
Yep can see that totally happening with Blake going to president of Hockey operations and Luc weaseling himself even farther up the food chain. Heck if they are going to promote within, wonder how Yannetti would do. I am pretty sure on Hovens pod he mentioned that he would like to be gm one day

I don't see how this team suddenly starts scoring 3-4 goals a game. Unless Doughty's return, fuels the team.
It's possible it does to some extent. It will depend on how close he is to last year's level. A few players are REALLY going to step up their production. Maybe 1 will, but I don't see many doing that.

So, it almost makes zero sense to acquire a veteran goal scorer (with or without term) and giving the team a lift. I don't think there's anyone out there, that would boost this team...if you still have Danault, Moore and Clewliss dressed every game and they are playing the level they are, you're not going to win. Unless you deal one of Moore, Danault and not dress Lewis.

The best thing they could do, is 'make a hockey trade', where Fiala, Moore or Danault are dealt and maybe you add a decent prospect or #2 pick, for a true upgrade. Not sure who would fit that definition, maybe one like Alex Tuch, as mentioned. But I don't think the Sabres are dealing him, but maybe dealing Cozens or Quinn, Byram. I still think Marchessault would be good...not ideal, at his age, but may make the team better...2 yrs removed from Conn Smythe winner. Of course, there's Krieder, Zbad, Rust, etc. I suppose Josh Norris, Pinto, Giroux if they fall back...and the Pens and Blue Jackets will probably be sellers, if they fallout of wildcard.

I wouldn't mind seeing a deadline deal for a RHD or Forward that is close to NHL type...like dealing #3 for Portillo, at 2022 deadline. Look towards the future type of deal and shore up a weak spot in the org.
I think they also got Braden McNabb that way from Buffalo and that was a good deal.

A dream scenario would be dealing Fiala, Moore and #1 2025 for Barzal. He recently returned and looking good. Or Brady Tkachuk. Maybe you have to retain Moore 50%. And you're probably adding even more, like a Ziemmer or more picks.

The Kings have missed out on premium players, like Eichel and Matthew Tkachuk, that were dealt.
They went 1B level, with Fiala and PLD. You can call PLD 1C level, but the Kings didn't see him that way.
Of course, he now has 30+ pts and 25 assists and doing ok....but he'll never have the Kings compete,
that they will always champion.

I'm not loving to give out #1 picks, but you do, for a Barzal or Tkachuk. Hate Brady or not, whatever.
I'd prefer Barzal. I'd even deal Fiala for Norris, if they add something. Kevin just cannot push his skills
to the threshold of making something happen you think he should attain. It's like he has the ability to out skate, out maneuver just about anyone...and sometimes make a great pass, or get a great shot off....but not as much as he should. Most players that skill level, do the next task successfully - score, create a high chance...whereas he does not.
It's like he needs his personal coach from Switzerland (or wherever he is) to come over and work with him.
That's so bizarre. I don't think he ever attains 70 pts again. It's not what the Kings thought they were getting.
He still has value.

I like the idea of going homerun: Barzal, Tage Thompson, Tkachuk, over a Zucker, Giroux, even Bryan Rust.
Top players get traded. If the Kings fall out of the playoffs, they should ask Doughty, Kopi, if they would want to go to a team to try for another Cup...and certianly get a haul for Gavi. I love Gavi and he's been nails...but if he's not signing, you gotta deal him.

Speaking of Barzal...I would consider Lee or Brock Nelson, over many other names out there. Still playing at a high level and can actually make a difference. All that said, I'm not dealing Greentree, Clarke, but would consider other prospects for the top level players. You can't say you're not dealing Ziemmer, George, Slukynsky for a Barzal. Both George and Slukynsky will never both be #1 anyway. ideally, you keep both, ala Jonathan Quick, Jonsthan Bernier and 1 wins out.

Barzal would be so sick but I worry about how he'd fit into LA's system at this point. The Isles play a very defensive style as well of course, so maybe he'd be used to it... but I'd still be a bit concerned (probably due to freaking PTSD from the PLD and now Fiala trade not working out amazingly lol).

Barzal is also a bit tricky to nail down in terms of what his actual value is. Across the NHL he's viewed as this insanely talented game breaking superstar and while I don't necessarily disagree - it's also hard to argue that given his career numbers. Looking at his numbers, you can essentially argue that Barzal has had just 2 elite seasons in his NHL career... His rookie season, when he put up 85 points in 82 games. And then last year, when he put up 80 points in 80 games. Other than that, his career high in points for a season is 62. Now granted he's missed some games in many of his other seasons and had decent point/game pace in those seasons but still - the point is what are you getting if you acquire Barzal? Are you getting a 60-70 point player on average or an 80+ point player on average?

He's also only on pace for 50 points this year and is being paid $9m... So are you buying low on Barzal or are you paying the price of a $9m superstar player in hopes that he doesn't continue on his 50 point pace?

And sure you could argue part of the reason Barzal's point totals aren't higher is because he's played for the Isles but it's not exactly like the Kings are a franchise where offense flourishes... He could absolutely have the same issues here in LA.

Honestly just comparing Barzal and Fiala from 2021-2024, you could argue Fiala + a 1st rounder would be fair value (obviously it'll take more than that I'm sure). Fiala's been the more productive player from 2021-2024 and both players are struggling pretty equally this year. Fiala has a more palatable cap hit while Barzal has the versatility to play center if needed. But even then, you'd need Fiala to waive his NMC to go to the Isles... Can't imagine that's super likely.

It's certainly an intriguing option though, albeit sadly unlikely.

Having said all this ^.... It would be so sick to have a first line of Barzal - Kopitar - Kempe. Like unbelievably sick. And then you'd have Barzal as an option at 1C if needed down the road. Or you could keep him on the wing and have a future first line of Barzal - Byfield - Kempe. Pretty damn appealing if you ask me.

The NHL's fake parity with the 3 point games is going to make it where there are a lot less clear cut sellers at the deadline, especially in the East.

Barzal would be fine, he's a right shot and he'd easily slot right in as the Kings 3rd most skilled forward and would finally make it where we don't have to pretend that Danault or Byfield are 2C's anymore. But he also isn't much of a finisher, and he wouldn't be put in a role playing with finishers, other than probably with Kempe on the PP.

If the Kings do trade for a C, I am guessing that they throw in the towel on QB as a C and put him back with Kopitar and Kempe. Turcotte has played admirably and worked hard in that role, but you just need more offense from a 1st line spot, it's not like Kopitar/Kempe are MacKinnon and Rantanen.

I like Barzal as an option because he's a center, and if we're going to make a deal it has to be for a decent C, especially if we give up someone like Doughty. We could also move them to the wing if we have too many C's, you can't do that with wingers. Imagine the dumpster fire of Fiala or the like down the middle...

Barzal would be a guy that could get Fiala going. So you wouldnt want to give up Fiala in that deal. Those two clicking would transform the offense. Moore and Danault for salary plus whatever picks and prospects they want. Just hope you can keep Greentree and I doubt they ask for one of the goalies while they have Sorokin.

I really don't think Fiala has very much trade value right now, and even if someone wants him, is he waiving to go to the 2nd worst team in the East? Long Island is an awesome place to live, but that team isn't very appealing right now, and Patrick Roy would probably kill Fiala on the bench.

$8m until 2029 for a player who turns 29 in a couple of months who is in the process of having his worst season in years doesn't seem to appealing. I feel like if the Kings trade Fiala it will be in one of those change of scenery for both guys trades, where Fiala would agree to waive his NTC.

They would be looking at leadt something like Greentree, Turcotte a first 2nd and have put Moore due to salary. Danault would be a no go as he would not waive to go there

I didnt know he had trade protection. Yea that sounds about right though you could maybe get a better deal as you are buying at a low on Barzal.
For whatever reason Hiller doesnt trust Turcotte so I am prepared to see him involved if they do make a splash at the deadline. The only thing about Barzal I dont like is his size. To beat a team like Vegas in a series it would be nice to have some beef down the middle of the ice.

We really just need Buffalo to bite the bullet and make Tuch available...

They clearly aren't making the playoffs (again) and you could argue Tuch is their most valuable trade asset right now. They should just trade him for a haul and focus on next year.

He's clearly the best option for the Kings right now and I'd be okay with the Kings giving up quite a bit to get him. This year and next at $4.75m is insanely good value for Tuch. He would instantly make this team significantly better.

You guys have gone through it well and it just seems anything major at the deadline is unlikely with a now gun shy Blake, who believes Summer is when you trade anyway.

It's probably a good thing keep your first and losing Greentree would be as dumb as the commenter here that tries desperately to be funny all the time.
