Edmundson was brought in to play long term with Clarke. Clarke is going to be on the second pair. Edmondson may have been brought in to replace Gavrikov.

If Gavrikov walks, Blake will have plenty of cash to go after Bennett as a UFA or maybe target an RFA center with an offer sheet.
If Gavrikov walks, the left side of the D corps is paper thin, they are gonna have to spend that money there regardless of who it’s paid to.

If Gavrikov walks next year they have Anderson Edmundson Moverare and Kirsanov on the left. It is pretty thin but quietly solid.
Clarke will have to take the next step for the defense to be great as a whole so there would be a little more pressure on him without Gavrikov.

If Gavrikov walks there will also be other LHD available....

Kings have Anderson as a great 1st pair shutdown LD. And they have Edmundson / Moverare as great 3rd pair LD options. So they would just need to target another 2nd pair LD (hopefully in the $5-6m cap hit range) - there will likely be a couple players that fit that mold come early July.

It's not "resign Gavrikov or we're screwed".

Mikey is solid, but he is only one guy.

Edmundson is guaranteed to miss at least 20 games, and god knows which 20 it’s gonna be. Need an insurance policy for his downtime.

Moverare is a great bottom pair guy, but he gets exposed further up the roster.

Kirasanov is a bag of magic beans until he comes over from Russia. The Voynov curse is real until it’s finally broken.

Yea I dont necessarily disagree with any of this. But they paid Edmundson an amount that maybe they were thinking hell be 2nd pair should Gavrikov walk. Moverare and Spence is a fine 3rd pair. Kirsanov was here this year but was injured. All indications from the organization seem to be he can be playing in the NHL right now so maybe being a 6th/7th man next year isnt farfetched.

The crazy thing is, this is one deadline where practically anything they want is available. High end forwards, dmen, sure things, home run swings...

What do they identify as the need and what's on the way out to do it on a crowded roster?

I'd love to see a depth dman at least...Martinez? or they could go hard for Provorov (since they're already paying him lol) or Pettersson or Dumolin.

And Hall fits the high upside reclamation PP project MO too. Maybe something with Chicago that isn't so Greentree-and-two-first-y? They could prob. get Nyquist or someone similar for relatively cheapy as well.

I have a hard time seeing what forward they take a big swing at that's worth it. But I will say I'm as big a Brock Nelson fan as there is on the west coast. I still think Kreider makes too much sense but also the price tag would be higher than market value.

My money's on them having the deal of the century lined up but then they can't pull it off because they're unable to get rid of Burroughs to open a roster slot.

I haven’t looked into the Jonathan Toews coneback rumors…is he an UFA? I can’t imagine he’d be that effective at this point. Age plus injuries, I can’t imagine he’d be a difference maker, other than being a consummate pro to have around.

Seems that once a big name is moved, may start a series of deals with teams perhaps making panic moves, thinking there may be less choices at the TDL. I bet either Pettersen or JT Miller is next.
Seattle taking Kappo may work out well for them. 5 pts in 8 games.

I’d honestly rather see a ‘hockey trade’, ala Moore + mid level prospect / 5th rd pick for ? …over a #1, Greentree or Ziemmer or Slukynsky for big name type of deal.

I believe in Laferriere, Turcotte, to do as much as most any deadline big name would actually add, make a difference. Any big name forward would push Turcotte down to line 4 and that is a waste of his talent. This stupid 11/7 thing seems here to stay. They are winning and they probably believe the 11/7 thing is a big part of that. But it’s more like they are winning despite that and would have the same record, 12/6. Burroughs is not a ‘net add’ to winning. Please please do not resign him or Englund.

I hope DD is not more than a few weeks away.

He’s been back for a few games. Don’t know if he still has both grapes.
Your penis is looking great today, Mats!

Another depth D???

Not sure I see a need personally.

This is analytically the best defensive team in the world (NHL) (by a decent margin) and this team already has Edmundson, Burroughs, Englund (barf), Moverare, and Caleb Jones. In addition to Doughty, Anderson, Gavrikov, Clarke, and Spence.

The D core is already so crowded we're likely going to see a very good Moverare scratched consistently when Doughty is healthy.

Would the goal be to solidify the top 4? With Doughty back, we're likely looking at a top 4 of Doughty, Anderson, Gavrikov, and Clarke (or Spence). I'm not really sure that's a top 4 that needs upgrading.

Jack Quinn would be the ideal target for the King's. Right handed forward with a good shot. Drafted 8th? The Byfield year. Hit a bit of a rough patch.

The King's haven't shown the ability to develop or integrate these types of players.

Josh Anderson would be the better fit, but MTL jumped into the wildcard riding a Laine driven PP.

Edit:
1) They should have promoted Blake to upper management & replaced him by now. Hopefully they'll figure out how to get him out of the job without embarrassment.

2) All trade proposals hence forth shall have Burroughs included.

The way I see it we don't know if Doughty is coming back full speed. We do know Anderson-gavrikov is awesome. I also personally don't want even a sniff of Burroughs or Englund come playoff time. I proposed Martinez or Brian Dumoulin, even if they're just the 7. Yeah I would hate pushing off Moverare and potentially Spence but you never know...Edmundson getting hurt is already happening, we're one LHD injury from being truly up shit creek, and a good depth guy wouldn't break into the real assets.

If Caleb Jones was a serious option for these guys they wouldn't have Englund and Burroughs sniffing around otherwise I MIGHT suggest that.

Doesn't Josh Anderson like....... Kinda suck at hockey?

Given the King's inability to utilize skilled players J. Anderson might be the best type of addition. Don't need another Kovalchuk.

Mikey, Doughty
Edmundson, Clarke
Moverare, Big D
Spence

Bring in a large, Physical D for the 3rd pair in the 2.5-3 AAV range.

well my pipe dream would be the Bruins retaining on Zadorov and Frederick but I'm also kind of a caveman

I could see Marchessault getting moved if Nashville rebuilds like Trotz said. He's a right shot. He's old, so I don't think he'd cost much. He seems like a guy who'd love to stick it to his former team. On pace for 28 goals.

He also has a French last name.

Replaced Blake with who?

He is only looking better right now.

Despite some people who can't shift gears mentally.

They are looking at a multi year extension for Blake right now.

Vegas is top of the Charts and Edmo is West Champ.

Losing again in the first round may not change anything.

Maybe you guys are expecting a repeat new years collapse?

I almost barfed reading many of the above suggestions.

When you aren't good enough to make it in pro hockey, you don't get the hands on experience to know the right decisions to make.

Sure some get lucky occasionally but it's mostly "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest."

Absolutely no point in rushing DD back while they are winning and regardless he should start on 3rd pair because that can be adjusted as quick as the next

shift if it looks like the moment for a myriad of reasons.

Hiller seems to be good at picking the moments of need and or opportunity and the players.
