Not sure if this was mentioned anywhere but we were close to acquiring Jokiharju but the delay on the Rantanen trade being processed caused us to miss out on him.

Nill put Heiskanen on LTIR to try and make additional moves but nothing panned out.

Damn. And he only went for a 4th rounder too

Might ultimately be the area that gets us eliminated from the playoffs.

This is a touch dramatic. He was playing 16 minutes a night on one of the the worst teams in the league

I'm just saying not acquiring another defender in general. I don't think Dumba and Bichsel are cut-out (yet in Bichsel's case) for the pace of playoff hockey. We will see I guess once one of them is replaced by Miro (ideally Dumba) so at least we have that to look forward to. Can't play another guy 5 mins a night though

If Bichsel-Dumba ends up as a playoff pairing, we will be in trouble

Both of those guys can be relied on to play more than the 5 mins a night Nils saw last year in playoffs. For Bichsel it comes down to matching him up and setting him up for success.

You saw the market - there were no middle pairing defenders available for less than a 1st round pick. You're only giving up assets to shuffle deck chairs when you're looking at guys like Soucy or Jokiharju.

Ya the Stars Dcore is more than enough imo. Sounds like Miro at most will miss a handful of games, and Dumba can hack it better than Nils so we won’t be seeing what we saw last year.

Overall I’d say this Dcore is deeper than what we had last year. Especially once Miro is back. At the end of the day the way I break it down is;

Miro = elite
Harley = top 2
Esa = top 4
Bichsel = top rookie playing like a #4/#5
Lybush = strong #5/#6 dman
Ceci= strong #5/#6 dman
Dumba = mid bottom pair/solid #7 option

Smith, Petro = decent #8/#9

What do we expect the D pairs to look like when Miro is back?

Esa - Miro
Harley - Lyub
Ceci - Lian
?

Throw Miro and Harley together when you need a goal.

Lyibushkin as the #4 doesn’t look great but the other 3 in the top 4 are excellent.

How good the third pair is depends on Bichsel and whether he can keep up to the pace. Ceci you know what you’re getting. I know he takes a lot of shit from Oilers fans but I remember being surprised by him in the west finals. I kept expecting him to be absolute shit based on his reputation from oil fans but he seemed very solid and steady.
