GDT: 2025 NHL Trade Deadline thread

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
I wonder if Seattle would move Kakko. Still just 24 and has put up pretty decent stats since joining them. I think that's a better fit for the third line compared to McCann (mostly due to salary structure but also youth).

I think Washington's first rounder and Boston's high second may both struggle to crack the org's top 10 prospects. Why not flip those for something that helps ideally not just this run but a few more? If even a decent fit lines up value wise I'd pull the trigger. Winning experience alone for this group when it matters would make it worthwhile. There's never any assurance, of course, but they have a glaring issue with the Eller line and the wherewithal to boost it.

New Jersey being a buyer is something. Does Hughes have any chance of coming back this year? I thought it was season ending and he’d be healthy next year?
It was reported he will be ready for training camp. Shoulder surgery is serious. He’ll be out a few months.

Great that Devils are buying.

They either crash hilariously out and lose assets or stay the course and atleast improve so that the Canes don't get bye to the 2nd round.

That's the report NJD put out yesterday, "Jack is expected to make a full recovery and be available for training camp." I suspect that they value making the playoffs with their young group even if their shot at actually winning without Hughes is low.

Devils stuff is incredible.

First they retain salary to acquire no-name prospect who is their head scouts son and days later they pay extra for other team to retain salary on UFA.

They aren't done it seems...
Didn't know the part about being their scout's son ...

A 2nd and a 3rd for a defenseman isn't unreasonable. Going after Brian Dumoulin of all people is legitimately insane

Worries me about the prices this year though. If this is what Dumoulin costs, then either teams are seriously down on this year's draft class or prices are just sky high right now overall. Neither option is good for us.
After Ryan Lindgren was moved Dumoulin became the best LD rental on the market. Otherwise there's only Grzelcyk really. Slim pickings unless teams want to take on term. Plus, Seattle retained so definitely a rich price but NJD also had three seconds to work with. Definitely curious, though, that they made this move their priority and not a center.

Karel Vejmelka re-signs for five years in Utah, another goalie off the potentially available list.

Kind of fascinated to see what Edmonton does in goal.
The talk around here in Edmonton from the Sportsnet guys is the Oilers aren't going to add a goaltender. They're usually pretty good with info.

Which is ridiculous.

Nashville claiming Vrana makes me wonder if we even tried to trade him.

The prices some of these players are going for you would think a pick could be had.

Teams are thinking if they're the last team in they play the Caps and then Canes maybe without Rantanen or Devils without Hughes and that's an easier path than 2nd in the Atlantic so teams aren't looking to sell

Does kinda make ya wonder. Not even a late round pick for a guy on league minimum $$ with SC experience and some juice in his game? I guess the Caps thought he’d slide through and were willing to take that risk. That said, good on Vrana for staying in the league and on the Caps for positioning themselves for what’s next.

The chance of sliding him through and throwing Hershey a bone/keeping him available as an option definitely far outweighs the 7th rounder they maybe could've gotten

propably hoped he passed the waivers so they can bring him back as black ace. Some 6th, 7th, whatever.

But its crazy how little the GMs appearantly actually shop players around. Too often you read something like ”we didnt even know he was avaivable” when a player is traded, and so often you see the prices generally match and add up to something and then a random trade that just wasnt even close the value you would figure some teams would have been ready to pay. Like, ”cant believe my team didnt match that offer”.

They should have a whatsapp or hfboards subforum for GMs to cauge around, but feels like they are still just working through fax-machines.

Well on the bright side, they made 11 grand!
For those interested, this cost Nashville $11,250 paid to Washington and not counted against the cap.

Players claimed this season: 30
Total compensation: $810,750

A load of situations to resolve in 24 hours: Rantanen (does he play tonight?), Nelson, Boeser and perhaps Marchand. And that's just among rentals. Hopefully all four move to increase the quality of supply. I don't expect many quality non-rental forwards to move but the Caps ought to be in that market also.
