GDT: 2025 NHL Trade Deadline thread

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
I wonder if Seattle would move Kakko. Still just 24 and has put up pretty decent stats since joining them. I think that's a better fit for the third line compared to McCann (mostly due to salary structure but also youth).

I think Washington's first rounder and Boston's high second may both struggle to crack the org's top 10 prospects. Why not flip those for something that helps ideally not just this run but a few more? If even a decent fit lines up value wise I'd pull the trigger. Winning experience alone for this group when it matters would make it worthwhile. There's never any assurance, of course, but they have a glaring issue with the Eller line and the wherewithal to boost it.

New Jersey being a buyer is something. Does Hughes have any chance of coming back this year? I thought it was season ending and he’d be healthy next year?
It was reported he will be ready for training camp. Shoulder surgery is serious. He’ll be out a few months.

Great that Devils are buying.

They either crash hilariously out and lose assets or stay the course and atleast improve so that the Canes don't get bye to the 2nd round.

That's the report NJD put out yesterday, "Jack is expected to make a full recovery and be available for training camp." I suspect that they value making the playoffs with their young group even if their shot at actually winning without Hughes is low.

Devils stuff is incredible.

First they retain salary to acquire no-name prospect who is their head scouts son and days later they pay extra for other team to retain salary on UFA.

They aren't done it seems...

Didn't know the part about being their scout's son ...

A 2nd and a 3rd for a defenseman isn't unreasonable. Going after Brian Dumoulin of all people is legitimately insane

2025 2nd + 2024 3rd round prospect for a 3rd pair D who is UFA in the summer.

Wow.

NJ got fleeced.
Worries me about the prices this year though. If this is what Dumoulin costs, then either teams are seriously down on this year's draft class or prices are just sky high right now overall. Neither option is good for us.

After Ryan Lindgren was moved Dumoulin became the best LD rental on the market. Otherwise there's only Grzelcyk really. Slim pickings unless teams want to take on term. Plus, Seattle retained so definitely a rich price but NJD also had three seconds to work with. Definitely curious, though, that they made this move their priority and not a center.

Karel Vejmelka re-signs for five years in Utah, another goalie off the potentially available list.

Kind of fascinated to see what Edmonton does in goal.
The talk around here in Edmonton from the Sportsnet guys is the Oilers aren't going to add a goaltender. They're usually pretty good with info.

Which is ridiculous.

Nashville claiming Vrana makes me wonder if we even tried to trade him.

The prices some of these players are going for you would think a pick could be had.
