It's the 30th/60th draft pick in 3 drafts.

At that point keep negotiating with Marchand see what's happens.

Difficult to defend this Marchand trade. Vegas/Carolina/Winnipeg could not do any better? A 2nd round pick before 2027/2028?
Its a free pick for basically not having Marchand for 20 games. A fraction of which, he wasn't going to be a able to play for us anyway due to his injury. Big Deal.

If you wanna bring him back, you still have that option. If you wanna be pissed because its Florida, fine. Knock yourself out.

Marchand had a limited NTC. No idea if Winnipeg/Vegas/Carolina were on that list or not. I'd wager Winnipeg DEFINITELY was.

The 2011 Boston Bruins are officially dead

Yes indeed the tank is officially on and it's probably a good thing. It will shorten the rebuild time. Big drop instead of a slow decline but if they draft well a new era sooner than later. I can't fault it. Surprised they did it to this level but it's a good thing.

Regarding Marchand, consider that they might also have done him justice by trading him to an actual cup contender as a favor. Thus the return might be less for that reason. He could still return next year. Unlikely, but possible.

I think Don did pretty good today.

Traded out grit & got some skill

Still waiting to see how all the dominos fall tho

Now fire the coaching staff!

Yeah that has to be next. Goalie Bob can stay but everyone else has to go. I think they brought Leach in to be the next coach, we shall see. I think there were issues in many areas with this team this year including both our head coaches.

The hindsight will come in offseason. If he extends in Florida because of beaches and low taxes it will hurt quite a bit more than a chance at another Beecher.

If he signs elsewhere altogether or here then yes it is much better.

If at the start of the year someone with a crystal ball told you:

Sacco will be the head coach

After the deadline Marchand, Coyle, Carlo, Freddy & throw in Brazeau would be gone

We would lose Hampus & Chuckie for very long stretches

You would have told that person they are nuts OR the Bruins are a guaranteed lottery pick team.

Life is funny at times eh??!!??

An aging, unsigned, injured Marchand. Who knows when he’s going to get back into the lineup and how productive he’ll be?

Getting anything for him is better than letting him walk 7/1 and getting nothing, especially given the rest of the season is a wash.

I don’t love it, but being the “worst” of the returns isn’t surprising to me.

Assets are assets. 🤷

I looked it up and Minten would need the visa. So does Khusnutdinov. Not sure if that Buffalo deal went through but if it did, Joki needs one too.

Lauko was in Minny and Mittelstadt is American so they are good to go.

So basically we:
  • restocked the draft cupboard to a certain degree with a 1st and a couple(?) of 2nds (and a 5th?)
  • Brought in some young prospects and players with potential upside: Khusnutdinov and Zellers
  • Brought in Lauko and Mittlestadt
  • Off-loaded Carlo, added Jokiharyu
  • Off-loaded underperforming big bodies in Coyle, Frederic and Brazeau
  • Traded the veteran captain and top-6 LW who's probably in his declining years
Did I miss anything?

Overall, I'd say a net positive trade deadline, considering the state of the team. If Marchand is gone for good, that will hurt, but I get it.

I hope, however, that this is just the first step in the rebuilding/retooling. Moves need to be made over the summer, either at the draft or through FA to get us either a legit top-6 LW or a top-6 C (unless E Lindholm magically becomes impactful) - or both!

Want to feel even better about Marchand going to the Panthers? Florida didn't have enough cap space for Brad, so the Bruins must have retained some of his contract, too!
