One thing we're going to have to keep in mind is that come tomorrow, the moves of today, this week, are going to sink in and we'll be wondering "what the hell just happened." There hasn't been this much change in a short time since, well, I guess going back to the days when Oates and others were shipped out that year. The big changes won't without some pain.

This is the beginning of a process that is going to take time to get to the other side of. Big changes happened this week. More big changes will happen in the summer. And more from there. There's a good chance the team will be pretty bad the rest of this season. A lot of holes opened up, the players left behind will be shellshocked, and the new players will take time to fit in.

But let's enjoy it for what it is. There are lots of new players to watch and evaluate. There should be some new energy. There are good draft picks to speculate about. This season was a complete dud. At least the page has been turned and things will be different, that's for sure. I really did not expect them to go for it so hard and I'm looking forward to what's next.
Spot on. The B's also have $26M in cap space for next year according to Puckpedia.

NHL trade deadline 2025 winners and losers

Winner: Florida Panthers

With an eye on repeating as Stanley Cup champions, the Panthers went out and landed two massive upgrades - Seth Jones and Brad Marchand.

Florida bolstered its defensive group by acquiring Seth Jones from the Blackhawks, taking advantage of the 30-year-old right-shot defenseman wanting out of Chicago. Jones immediately becomes a sensational second-pair option for Paul Maurice to deploy for a playoff push and beyond, with Jones signed for another five seasons after this year.

Right at the deadline, the Panthers also pried away Bruins captain Brad Marchand from Boston, giving the pending UFA a chance at another Stanley Cup. Marchand is built for playoff hockey, and a lineup boasting Marchand, Matthew Tkachuk, and Sam Bennet is going to give anyone a massive headache.

In addition, Florida managed to land arguably the best faceoff man in the league in Nico Sturm, who won a Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 2022.

There's no replacing Tkachuk, who is out for the rest of the regular season with a groin injury. But the Panthers didn't try and do that, instead opting to boost their blue line and add depth/snarl at the forward position.

Loser: Bruins fans

On the bright side for Boston fans, Don Sweeney did what he should have done - he was a seller. While the Bruins aren't out of the playoff race, the writing has been on the wall that this group isn't cutting it. Given the seller's market, it was obvious to trade off pieces like Charlie Coyle and Justin Brazeau.

However, two deals that were shockers right at the buzzer not only involved the team's captain and a top-four defenseman with term, but both were moved to rivals. Marchand landed in Florida with the Panthers in a stunning move, while Brandon Carlo was sent to the Maple Leafs. It's one thing to move out pieces, but it's another to help an in-division rival. For some reason, the Bruins spun the wheel and decided to help out both the Leafs and the Panthers.

Anyone else find it weird that Marchand hasn’t done any media interviews yet? I’m sure he’s just trying to adjust to what’s happened but still strange he hasn’t said anything (unless I missed it)

Radio silence. I’d imagine we will hear from him on Tuesday when Florida is in Boston. I’d expect short answers b/c I personally think he’ll be back July 1.

Fun fact: The Bruins now have 3 former Buffalo 1st round picks. Zadorov, Mittelstadt, Jokiharju.

Sad how Buffalo has become a feeder team for the rest of the league. In addition to the 3 above, there are numerous other former Buffalo 1st rounders working for other teams, some of them stars. And it continues to this day.

What they need to do now is get a real XOs coach much in the way of Julien. I truly believe he is the reason they had such good well rounded players. He enforced a very straight forward team and made them responsible on both sides of the puck. Sacco seems to wishy washy to me and his team played the same way. I hope they do not go forward with him as the coach

Hey, good stuff as usual Wally .The very last part about spinning wheels, Fraser Minten jumped right in my thoughts. The Bruins helped Brad and family by keeping him close in the East .I usually rip Sweeney but he did well yesterday .Bruins have now begun the process of being prominent once again.

I can live with that
Looks like Brad returning isn’t going to happen.

I was annoyed the B’s didn’t get more, but realistically, the Panthers are just renting Marchand for 10-15 games (hopefully enough to make it a 1st). In the end, they got an asset and worked with the player to send him to a team he wanted to go. Can’t ask for more than that really.

We will see.

You said that already. Obviously we will.

I would rather move on a year too quickly than hold on for two years too long.
At this point we need to see what the cap will be. If it goes up considerably then you try to bring him back. At this point my focus turns to Geekie’s extension. Once that gets settled, and hopefully soon, I’ll look to the offseason

Regardless of what the Cap is. If you could sign Ehlers for $8m and Marchand wants $6-7. Who do you sign? If it’s me, I’m going for Ehlers.
