Sweeney still hasn’t acquired a 1st round pick at this deadline. Coyle HAD to return a 1st. Middlestat is an overpaid 3C. I’m willing to bet Colorado demanded Sweeney take him back to make the cap work. It’s also debatable that Frederic should’ve returned a 1st.

So far, no 1sts, no top prospects.

When you add up all the pieces that have come back to Boston this week, with potential for another move or two today, I think we have to acknowledge that the team now has more to work with as far as future oriented material. Picks, young prospects, young roster players.

Maybe there isn't a top line player/pick - yet - but at the very least there is an opportunity to build out much better depth in the middle-6 and middle D. If they get to the point someday when they're not having to count on contribution from the likes of Tufte/Koepke/Wahlstrom/Wotherspoon/et al, I think that will be a good thing. Then add in their own potentially decently high 1st round pick.

It's something to look forward to IMO even if it takes time to pay off.

If nothing else, I am please that Sweeney did not end up stuck in neutral this week.

Depends. He was getting bounced around the Avs lineup because he didn't really fit how they play.

Here he should be at minimum a 2nd line center. Move Lindholm's ass down to 3C and see how it works for the rest of the year.

Go look at that 2022-23 Buffalo team. Everyone on it over-produced. Just 8 goals less than the regular-season record setting Bruins. Still missed the playoffs with a terrible goals against record. No structure, players doing whatever they wanted. He'll never scratch 60 points here.
