Prospect Info: 2025 NHL Entry Draft

He’d be a nice add, if he’s the BPA on their board go for it, I just feel there’s positions we need to strengthen more.
I think that's why you guys are tough to predict. I think 1-2 is set, then 4-6 is set sans order. After that, it's anyones guess.

If given the choice, what position would you bolster? I assumed center? You have a gluttony of quality wings and defense looks set?

IMO Martin is the favorite if he is available. If not, someone with size (McQueen, Mrtka, Lakovic, Nesbitt) or tenacity (Bear, Eklund). Those are the most logical players to choose from assuming someone like O’Brien doesn’t drop. It’s impossible to pin it down any further at this point.

Forward regardless of C/RW/LW and a Right Shot Dman. We suck at drafting Forwards outside of the lottery picks. Last time they drafted a forward that panned out beyond the lottery pick area was 5th rounder Troy Terry 10 years ago in 2015. Colangelo is a 2nd round pick 2020 that is on the right track to be the next one.

Gina Carano is incredible btw :) Is She a Vegas Golden Knights fan though ?

My personal guess is that we take Mrtka if he’s there at 10 (I don’t think he will be). He would be unique to our pool and give the right side of the defense more depth. If he’s not there, I could see McQueen (I also think he will be gone by then), O’Brien, or Martin.

Lol, join the club. We just hope our pick turns out better than Pouliot, Morrow, and Beau Bennett

And yeah, my girlfriend might be a VGK fan...it never came up, lol. She used to grace the Pens playoff threads circa 2016 and then "fancy" came from an interview about Brian Gibbons, i think? Anyway, just combining the two bits of Pens Lore into one magical avatar for all to see.

Penguins need a center and by my lists, all of the centers will be gone by 11 unless there is movement with Mrtka, Smith, Eklund, and Aitcheson, or there's a reach for someone like Bear or Reschny. You guys taking Sennecke last year really throws a wrench in predicting picks based on consensus rankings.

I've held the view that I think Seattle goes for Mrtka. They need a good dman in their pool and Mrtka plays in Seattle so there's a ton of opportunity to scout him.

Hopefully we pass on McQueen if that is who Pitt wants. A bit risky for me on using the Ducks pick on him in what should hopefully be the Ducks last top10 pick for years.
Arizona/Utah is hard to predict too. Them picking Simashev in 2023 when Michkov/Leonard/Benson is right there, trading up for Soderstrom in 2019, Strome #3 overall in 2015.

We do NOT want him and are hoping he goes earlier so that a guy like Martin gets pushed to us.

I think Utah is a bit easier - I think they go Martone or Hagens depending on who is available. I think with Martone, Iginla, and Crouse they have a very nice balance to their high skill guys, especially if they look to add Marner this off-season (which I think they do). I think Hagens goes 3OV but if he's there, Utah takes him.

That said, I think there's a clear 1-2 but then 3 through about 7 is wide open. I have the list of guys and they could all go anywhere. Very reminiscent of the 2006 draft where you had Erik Johnson going #1, then Toews, Backstrom, Staal, and Kessel all at 2-5 and it was anyone's guess what order they went in.

I see a lot of discussion but do you guys have a "perfect world" pick? Honestly, you guys are the toughest one for me to peg down on who you might take and for what reasons. You're pretty flush with talent across the board so I couldn't even point to a pick to bolster the group. I thought maybe Aitchenson might fill the biggest "need"?

What are you all thinking?
The only real gap the Ducks have is a top pairing RHD. Not a guy that can fill in, an actual legit top pairing guy. They have plenty of potential top 4 guys that could probably play a top pairing spot like Luneau, but they are missing that legit top pairing guy.

LHD is not a need at all. They still will take one if he is the BPA, but if need is taken into account it is by far the lowest need.
The "perfect world" pick would be a top line forward, but at 10 that is probably asking for a lot. You could make an argument that pretty much any of the guys that will be available to us could have a good fit because there is no huge need that will be filled by anyone available. Noone the Ducks draft at 10 will be the best player/prospect at their position under the age of 25 in the Ducks org.

Compare that to a team like Pittsburg who will likely be taking the best U25 in the organization at 11.

Personally I would love to have Desnoyers as a 3rd line center behind Leo and McT. Getting another 6'4 RW would

In terms of needs, Ducks need a top pair 2 way or defensive oriented D and scoring forwards, preferably bigger/physical guys and ones that can win faceoffs (but not necessarily a C).

Realistically, Ducks can have Terry, Sennecke, and Colangelo at RW, and Carlsson, McTavish, Zegras down the middle. Positionally, a LW or C (with Zegras or McTavish moving to LW) might be the second biggest need.

Mcqueen/Eklund... were in a position where we can swing for the fences on these type of guys that might potentailly be there at 10.

Aitchenson would normally prob be right up our ally, but we have too many young LHD... id prefer to target our actual needs (but if our scouts think hes better than the 10 spot, then i trust them)... im whatever on Mrtka... im not overly sold on him... and i think we do well on dmen in the 2nd/3rd round so i kinda hope we go forward at 10.

I like Martin/Nesbitt as fit choices , upside wise maybe not as exciting... but in terms of team need, they could potentailly be our 3c to go behind Carlsson- McTavish - Martin/Nesbitt - Gaucher/Washe.

If O'Brian/frondell fall to us obviously they would be easy yes picks.

Lakovic prob an off the radar pick, based on potential (like Sennecke).

Were pretty deep everywhere.... so we can kinda go wherever we want.... and i think theres is a good chance someone we dont expect to be there at 10 will be there at 10.

Carlsson
McTavish
Martin
Washe/Gaucher

Would be the envy of the league for center depth/style and SC caliber IMO.
I doubt Martin is a center at the NHL level and honestly that's likely a good thing. His physical style is pretty hard to pull off while having to be 3rd man high. If the Ducks take him I am expecting to get a winger out of it.
