Croatian LW I've never heard of, apparently.

This shift by shift is all I've seen so don't know much, but eventful game for him. Looks good, decent skater, decent shot, good positioning in this shift by shift. I like the way he generates speed in transition. Looks like he's played a lot in Sweden, so if our Swedish scouts give him the seal of approval, lets grab him!

I'm always intrigued by players from smaller hockey markets, my unsubstantiated theory is that there is a higher probability of the player being a late bloomer and a bit earlier on their development curve than say Canadian players that have more resources available and and may be closer to their ceiling at the draft.

Reschny commited to UND.

Wonder if this is a trend we’ll start to see where draft year guys play their D+1 year in college rather than going back to junior.
It's just a better development option when you're too good; I think even draft eligibles like Gavin McKenna will make the jump too. For kids not at the NHL level, it's as much of a win to get an education as a backup.

It's a win for the NHL too to see prospects at a more competitive level, easier to draft when you don't have to project Cale Makar in the AJHL or Tyson Jost in the BCHL.

Also better for players to not have to settle for lesser leagues to open the college route. And for kids staying in the CHL who might get financial incentives to stay.

It would be more fun
better schedule for strength and conditioning
It will be interesting to see how the rules around negotiating rights change.

yeah it's not a good thing for players to play at a level where it is too easy or too hard. College hockey is like the perfect next step for junior players who are too good for that league but not physically developed enough for AHL. I think there will be less busts with junior players that take the junior -> college -> AHL route.

It's already happening among guys who committed to CHL when the NCAA restriction was still in place; imagine how it's going to be, given that a lot of the players will join CHL now with the full intention of moving to D1 once they're eligible. There's also the late-birthday guys like McKenna who are still a year away from being drafted but are probably on course to finish high school this year.

The bigger story, the surprise, is Verhoeff. He's a true 17YO but must be a year ahead academically compared to the typical schedule. Crushing news for Victoria to lose both Verhoeff and Reschny.

we should prioritize the long term well being of prospects over the junior teams. feels like the current setup doesn't maximize success of the kids, it's almost like the rules around junior are designed to take advantage of kids. you could argue with NCAA as a next step development path, it would reduce prospect bust rate by XX% and that is huge for those kids. If teams go busts because of that so let it be.

Adding to this, he’s rated 67th for North American skaters and is listed as 6’ 195. Seems to be more of a 2nd or 3rd rounder.

Canucks interviewed Bruno Idzan of Croatia/Lincoln stars this week and apparently are quite high on this late Bloomer prospect
He is an interesting prospect who got passed over last year but frankly I think 15 is too high to take him. but maybe with the San Jose pick in the 3rd they might start looking at him.

One thing you can give credit to Allvin's management team is they always pick a prospect that has upside and an interesting path. Their amateur and pro scouting is top notch.

Yeah, it’s kind of funny that the criticism about his hiring was that he was the Penguins’ scouting director and they didn’t have much success in the draft. Canucks scouting, and development, has been the best it’s had in a long time.

Even players that a lot questioned, Mynio and Young come to mind, have improved a tonne and look to be positive organizational players at the very least.

hope we can score a game changer like Seth Jarvis or Brayden Point. We can’t afford another Josh Holden/Shinkaruk outcome where talent fails to materialize at the professional level.

Smaller hockey market, you say.

Trust their Scouts, you say.

What could go wrong?

Remember the last time we didn't draft a guy cause he was from a 'non hockey country'?. Even though he played 2 years in Sweden.?
OK Idzan clearly isn't Kopitar, but it's not like he's being judged only on his play for Croatia internationally. He won't be our 1st round pick anyway.
