Prospect Info: 2025 NHL Entry Draft

This feels like a deeper draft, no?
No it's a shallow draft. We are picking in a good spot but there is a drop off around 8 then a big drop around 15. The draft is also weak further down with 2nd round picks the equivalent of 3rd rounders. Lots of teams have traded out of this draft already

Not at all.

The vibe/opinion I am getting from a lot of people is this:
No "generational talent" at the top of the draft.
2 "Elite" franchise guys.
A solid top 10ish that is as good as most top 10s.
A weak mid1st-2nd with players you would normally get picked in the late 2nd/3rd.

So for us picking in the top 10, its as good as most other years, and it's a good year to not be loaded up with late 1sts/2nds. It can seem deep in the sense that you will see players go in the late 2nd that could have easily gone top 20, but it's more because its so weak in that area.

Honestly though this is all BS until we are 5 years out, and all it takes is making that 1 good pick. 2018 was a really weak, yet I'm pretty sure the teams that got Dahlin, Svechnikov, Tkachuk, Hughes, etc are pretty happy. We bombed with Lundy and Giroux in the first 2 rounds, then picked Dostal, so I call that draft a big win for us.

No real huge surprises. I'm a little surprised Frondell is at 4.

I always find the variance height and weight between sources to be interesting. Desnoyers is listed at 6'0 1/2 here and everywhere else I see has him at 6'2.

At this particular moment in time, none of our scouts surveyed said they would be comfortable taking McQueen where they currently rated him — eight of the 10 had him between Nos. 3 and 10 with two more saying they’ve already red flagged him due the spectre of injury.

The majority of those eight scouts who see the towering centre, if healthy, as a bona fide top 10 prospect said the final decision would ultimately rest with their team’s doctor.

Basically what we expected. If the Doctor gives a clear bill of health he will forsure go top 10. If there are questions he could slip out of the top 10.

I like the Martin fit

It would be a bit of a reach, but I also don’t think you can trade down in hopes to get him… he’s the type of players some teams are really going to like and be willing to take higher.

If I felt confident he’d be there at 15 I’d do

Willander + 15
For
8 +

Yeah, clean hit by Martin but definitely late.

In my mind if hit is definitely late, that means it's not clean.

I watched Canada vs. Finland and Canada vs. Czech games and I think Martin was Canada's best forward. But he has some "dustinbrown" in him and the NHL don't allow that kind of border line dirty play(er)s that much any more.

And I wonder how much goalscoring potetial he has. He is a a really smart passer, but if he plays in the NHL at wing (RW) how effective he will be.

But if I have to choose between Anton Frondell and Brady Martin I would definitely take Martin.

edit.

That Verhoeff kid is a really impressive. It's hard to belive that he is only sixteen years old.

Iv really been feeling Eklund for our pick. Here is a quote from his brother.

“He [plays] that Travis Konecny type, that’s how I would describe him. He’s in your face. He works his ass off for his teammates. Blocks shots. Scores goals, and he’s a competitive guy,” Eklund explained. “He’s gonna bring it every day, be working the hardest [in the] gym, and always be there. That’s what I love about him.”

That would be a great player to add to the team. If he has the same trajectory as his brother we could be looking at a 60 point winger in 4 years

My big brother is a Sharks fan. It’d be kinda funny if the younger Eklund ended up on the Ducks.

Martin going top7 means that O'Brien and Eklund are there at #8.
Who do you want if that happens: Eklund, Mrtka, O'Brien or McQueen ?

Eklund fits what we like in players
Mrtka is lacking besides his size
O'Brien is a power play specialist that lacks defense
McQueen will go earlier if he is healthy or we will pass if he fails medicals
