Prospect Info: 2025 NHL Entry Draft

Feels like he might be a candidate to garner enough momentum to sneak into the top 5. He’s giving me major “Barrett Hayton in 2018” energy.
Maybe yeah. FWIW I think those who have watched him closely in the OHL, were already huge fans. In his early Feb mid term ranking, Brock Otten had him ranked ahead him as the fourth best draft eligible OHL player, behind Schaefer/Misa/Martone but ahead of O'Brien and Aitcheson.

"Martin continues to fly under the radar a bit because he's playing for a last place Greyhounds team. The momentum that he built up following a standout performance at the Hlinka/Gretzky has been lost a bit. Consistency has been a bit of an issue as the team works through their own struggles. Yet, those who follow the OHL closely understand what Martin brings to the ice on a nightly basis. This is a fierce competitor who also happens to be extremely skilled. His competitiveness is through the roof. He's a hunter on the ice. He hunts down loose pucks. He hunts down chances near the crease. He hunts down puck carriers. He's also as strong as an ox and he uses that to be an impact two-way player, although I'd say that he's slightly more physical in puck pursuit in the offensive end versus the defensive end at this current moment. From a skill perspective, Martin routinely turns defenders into pylons. According to our data through InStat, Martin leads the OHL this year in successful dekes completed and he's right near the top in hits per game. I'd say the only thing missing from Martin's game is high end skating ability. It's come a long way in the last calendar year. He now has some separation speed and he's become stronger on his edges. However, that still likely grades out as average for the next level. As an average sized pivot, albeit a physical one, that's still going to be concerning for some scouts. Ultimately, I think the U18's this year will go a long way as to determining Martin's eventual draft placement."

I don't see Martin being taken in the first 5-6 picks and I think it would be a mistake for any of the teams drafting in those spots to pass on players that have much more upside than he does. That said, he's definitely elevated himself into the next tier of players after the top six though....that tier being Martin, McQueen (if healthy), O'Brien, and Eklund. I don't expect him to drop out of the top 10 unless one or two teams decide to go for a defenseman.

This will probably be our last top 10 pick for a long while. I believe we should take someone who has the potential to be a fist line guy. That leaves this group for me. Misa Hagens Martone Mqueen OBrien Frondell Eklund

Shaffer would qualify also

Ya same. I get he is having a good tournament and is playing a very appealing style, but 7 games shouldn't take him from being around 15th to 8th.

Like I trust Madden but Martin projects more safely as a bottom 6er than a top 6er. I'm all for infusing more physicality in this team's lineup but burning a top ten pick to do it is how you end up with Dylan McIlrath over, well, a lot of much better players.

Björck, Ekberg, Schock and Stenberg stood out to me — didn’t notice Frondell much.

I do wonder if it's because Frondell is used to playing in a more structured men's league. We can use our own Helleson as an example. He didn't stand out at all in the AHL, but each time he's in the NHL, his game shines as a third pairing, shutdown role.

Also, Frondell joined the team after Sweden had already played two prelim games and just thrown into the fray. I still expected Frondell to shine.

We already picked Gaucher over Snuggerud in Verbeek's first draft. If we have a chance to land a prospect with higher potential, then we should do that.

I don't understand why a few people in this thread seem to feel this way about him
I'm not gonna pretend to have watched him a lot but I've done a fair amount of reading. Think you need to note I didn't say that's his ceiling or what I'm expecting. But from everything I've read he strikes me as a guy who, especially considering this is a fairly weak draft class, seems more likely to be a bottom 6 grinder than some top 6 powerforward stud. A number of reports indicate his skating isn't great relative to juniors. I haven't seen enough to have an informed opinion and I'm happy to admit it. But if his skating doesn't stand up to snuff, the guy who likes to throw the body and grind the cornerboards in juniors is more likely to be a depth guy in the NHL than anything beyond.

I’d be pretty surprised if Martin wasn’t a 2nd line center personally.
On this team I envision him as a future high end 3C to put our depth over the top behind Carlsson and McTavish but I definitely think he could be a 2C on another team who takes him who isn't as deep at the position
