LD Schaefer going #1 OA on this list. LD Jackson is at 7th. The first RD is 6'6 Mrtka. RD Hensler drops to 19th and is the 6th d-man on the list.

Schaefer looks like canadas best player so far at world juniors.

I think it’s prob good for us if there’s a few dmen at top of draft, can maybe catch a high end forward.

Schaefer has been #1 on every midterm ranking I have seen so far.

There are some out there that don't. Getting injured at the WJC and how he got injured was awkward for Schaefer. I'm glad he's still seen as a top-3 prospect. He was my #1. But the injury could make way for other players to rise to with the second half of the season left to go.

Early in the year I was thinking McQueen would be an ideal add, with a roll of the dice in the later rounds for a developmental defenseman like Amico or Wang.

Recently I’m starting to like Carter Bear… he might fit what we are now looking for. Versitility to play center and wing, goal scoring that we desperately need, but huge motor and compete. That is a combination that we really don’t have up front in the system. Just worried that he’s not super big or high end in skating, but so was Bennett. He’s more skilled and less of a fighter that Bennett.

Guys that have that sandpaper that are getting good marks are Genborg up front, and Bedkowski and Phillips on the blue line for a later target.

Does seeing LaCombe rise to being our default #1D quell the need for a top pair D-man in the draft, especially if he continues to play at this high level for the rest of the season. If we win the lottery, then I have no problem drafting LD Schaefer, since he is BPA. If we're not in the top-3, then we aren't beholden to drafting a defensemen (particularly a RHD). Although, seeing Mrtka rise to #6 on CSB's Midterm Ranking does make me wanna say, "Hmmmm.... "

If we are picking top 2 I would prefer one of the forwards, Hagens, Martone or Misa. Schaefer is great but I dont think he has separated himself from the others especially after the injury.

Mrtka would be great to add to the pipeline as a future replacement for Gudas/Trouba. Still seems like it will be a F that is best available at our pick 5-10 though so it will be very interesting to see how that next tier of player ends up after the top 4.
