There are some out there that don't. Getting injured at the WJC and how he got injured was awkward for Schaefer. I'm glad he's still seen as a top-3 prospect. He was my #1. But the injury could make way for other players to rise to with the second half of the season left to go.

MyNHLdraft has Schaefer #2.
Tankathon has Schaefer #3.
TheScore has Schaefer #2.
 
Early in the year I was thinking McQueen would be an ideal add, with a roll of the dice in the later rounds for a developmental defenseman like Amico or Wang.

Recently I’m starting to like Carter Bear… he might fit what we are now looking for. Versitility to play center and wing, goal scoring that we desperately need, but huge motor and compete. That is a combination that we really don’t have up front in the system. Just worried that he’s not super big or high end in skating, but so was Bennett. He’s more skilled and less of a fighter that Bennett.

Guys that have that sandpaper that are getting good marks are Genborg up front, and Bedkowski and Phillips on the blue line for a later target.

Does seeing LaCombe rise to being our default #1D quell the need for a top pair D-man in the draft, especially if he continues to play at this high level for the rest of the season. If we win the lottery, then I have no problem drafting LD Schaefer, since he is BPA. If we're not in the top-3, then we aren't beholden to drafting a defensemen (particularly a RHD). Although, seeing Mrtka rise to #6 on CSB's Midterm Ranking does make me wanna say, "Hmmmm.... "

If we are picking top 2 I would prefer one of the forwards, Hagens, Martone or Misa. Schaefer is great but I dont think he has separated himself from the others especially after the injury.

Mrtka would be great to add to the pipeline as a future replacement for Gudas/Trouba. Still seems like it will be a F that is best available at our pick 5-10 though so it will be very interesting to see how that next tier of player ends up after the top 4.
 
Curious if we would rank Aitcheson higher than Solberg? Aitcheson is a similar profile but more season pugilist. They have the same size, meanness, and shown some offensive upside. But I don't think we would target him even with we had another 1st round pick because of Solberg. My guess is Aitcheson will likely get selected earlier due to being a North American.

Currently out injured with a possible concussion. Hasn't played a game since 12/28. Depending on the severity of the injury, his draft stock will be impacted.

Misa would be incredible. He does have an underrated mean streak that will get him very far. He might be more similar to Perry than anything I have seen in the past 20 years coming out of the Draft.

Misa beat Martone in a fight so there is definitely something there.

More like realistic. It's annoying when draft day projections act like every top 10 pick is going to be a 100 point 1st liner.
Hagens is likely not a 1st line center on a cup team. Similar to McTavish even when McTavish was at his best last season.
That doesn't mean he wont be a good pick. At this point I would kill for a 70 point center lol.

I hope the Ducks end up with a top 4 pick because I think there is a very clear top 4.

Caleb Desnoyers is pushing into the top group for me, I love everything I read and see about him. Run away top scorer on the best team in the CHL (as a 17 year old) and already a proven winner. High pace, lots of skill, works his butt off and gets the most praise for his IQ on both sides of the puck.

We should all be hoping that McQueen gets healthy soon and has a strong finish. That would at least give the draft a decent top 5.
 
In the third round, could use one of the 3rd round picks on a top Minny high schooler Mason West. CSB Mid-term ranking has him #50 for NA skaters and McKenzie has him ranked 59th. He's currently a junior in high school due to his Aug birthdate. A 6'5, 208 lbs RHC. He's a dual sport guy right now, between hockey and a QB in football. Ofc, if scouts talk to him and he wants the football route, then he's off the table.
