Prospect Info: 2025 NHL Entry Draft

I'd move our pick in this draft in a package for an elite talent if they can be locked up long term. Not sold on this crop having anyone who is sure to shine brighter than our current young core. I'd be cool with punching the accelerator a bit and trading this first for the next high end RFA age star that becomes available.

Can definitely see the Perry comparisons with Martone. Sets up a quality chance using his reach and skill. Goes right to the net and pokes at the goalie, then sticks around to get in a shoving/chirping scrum with three US players after the whistle.

I like this concept, the CHL group just happens to be much stronger this year.

We could see a huge jump in his rankings.

A lot of his hype is his potential being a 6'6 RHD that can skate pretty well. The offense has never really impressed, but he is splitting time between playing under 10 minutes a game against men, and junior. If he comes into the WHL and is a near PPG defensemen in the WHL he content for top 5.

It will be interesting to see how he plays in the CHL. Aside from 6'6 and good skating, there wasn't much about Mrtka... just a lot of potential. If he get to the CHL fast enough, then he can log a few games before potentially joining his WJC squad.

Hockey Prospects says everyone they have talked to universally agrees that 2025 is a bad draft year. They say there is no depth and will have to be very lucky to find anyone from 4th round on. They likened it to 2019 draft.

I'd rather give up our unprotected first this year and avoid having it slide to 2026. Don't want to be giving up our first in a potential generational prospect year, even if we are expecting to take a step forward.

With the mid pack start in the first quarter of this season, one would hope adding a point per game powerforward would help keep us out of the early lottery this year. But I'm willing to lose a top 3 pick this year + McTavish in exchange for this player at age 25 and signed long term.

And on off chance we win lottery…. Flip it for another asset+ that will help make sure we’re not in that running.

In a perfect world I’d love to get kakko and Brady.

I agree with the sentiment that it's a good year to trade their 1st. The Ducks need players to help the core now. If a long term, high end player became available, then the timing is right and they need to try. These are the moves that help teams take a step forward.

They desperately need a long term solution for Minty as no one on the team or with the prospects realistically will fill that role now or in the next few years. They also need at least one high end scoring forward to help balance out the lines.
 
This draft is interesting. As always, its overblown how good/bad a draft is. Most drafts are in the middle of the bell curve. But even with a "bad" draft, it's all about hitting on your pick. 2018 sucked, but I bet the 5 teams in the top 10 that didnt draft a bust are pretty happy with Dahlin, Svech, Tkachuk, Hughes, and Bouchard.

Guys I expected to like coming into the year havent really shined (Ryabkin, Frondell, etc).

The top 4 look really good. I don't include McQueen because he doesnt look to be on the same level, but a lot of scouts I really like have him in the top 4 (EP has him at 2) so it is probably a top 5. Then from 6 to like 20 it seems pretty even to me.

Schaefer is probably my favorite player in this draft. When you take into account he is a week away from being 2026 draft eligible he is insane.

Anyways, we will still likely be a top 5-10 pick, so it's nice to know the Ducks will likely get their guy since the second group is so big.
