I am a huge Ryabkin fan but this is a significant red flag, still very young but at that age (draft year to boot) and that level you need more off ice commitment and not simply rely on your talent.

Yeah.. I'm a Ryabkin fan but I don't think he will be a target with our pick this year.

I would expect the Habs brass to be looking for another skilled forward with size/jam to their game. Ryabkin has some but not enough.

Yeah I definitely don't think they are going towards Russia this year, we got Demidov and will live through a crappy development year but he's a stud so it won't affect him much.

Would be great if we're picking something like #11 AND #12 with our pick and Calgary’s, where the Habs show solid progression and the Flames overachieve.

Porter Martone is the dream but that's all it is, a lottery win pipe dream. Anyone know if Malcolm Spence has a physical edge?

Yeah, Spence has jam. He plays a strong physical game, and is solid along the boards and on the cycle. Intense forechecker and good two-way player. He's a puckhound.

He's a pesky and is known to chirp. Apparently, he's pretty good at it, too.

He doesn't have high end skill, but he should score at NHL level. Comparable is like a cross between Lehkonen and Byron except bigger and more physical than either.

A buff Lehkonen is a pretty good comp IMO, he brings the same type of game, but with a bit more size and power. Strong skater too, heck of a natural athlete.

I am not sure, this warrant a top 10 pick unless some people can convince me he has some Tkachuk level of talent in him.

Both Tkachuks went top 6. Imo, he's not a top 6 player. It's possible he's not top 10. Currently, he's on the cusp. We'll see how his offense unfolds this year. He was ppg this past year.

He needs to improve his shot accuracy, as he tends to be a volume shooter. But, he's in that Knies, Lehkonen, super forechecker, pain in the ass mold for sure. Like them, he'll play on any line & likely be the primary puck retriever on any line.

Schaefer is also a year younger than Martone and one of the youngest players in the class.

Shaping up to be a 2014 kind of draft, where any of 4 guys could be ranked first depending who you ask (Hagens, Martone, Schaefer, McQueen)

You guys overestimate McQueen so much, I don't see that elite talent. The top 4 is Hagens/Martone/Misa/Schaefer. But I don't see any of them surpassing Hagens. Maybe Misa/Martone if James has a down season in the NCAA and they continue to obliterate the OHL.

But I would go:
1 Hagens
2 Misa
3 Martone
4 Schaefer
5 Frondell
6 McQuenn

I honestly believe early on that Porter Martone is the best player and then the rest. I have watched Hagens but I do not see Jack Hughes level of talent. He is kind of a mix of Zach Benson with Logan Cooley. He will be a good player but I am not sure he is a true franchise player. Overall, we will see but I am not very impressed with the draft talent. It is a bit similar to 2022 maybe with even less talent. We will see I guess.

I cringe every time I see Hagens as the 1st OA, but by the end of the season I will know his game much better, so far while I like him a bit, I just don't see him going 1st OA unless this draft is much weaker.
