Guys they aren’t trading up. Look at the teams above them in the draft. They all want high impact forwards too.
Yup true ,but the Bruins are picking high enough they should hit on their top pick. Definitely can't afford another miss this time that is for sure .Winning the lottery would take care of thingsDefinitely fair, and there will likely be at least a handful of players who are drafted after the first round this year who will go on to have good NHL careers. There might even be an all star who emerges.
(discounting goalies who seem almost unscoutable, and could come from anywhere)
In terms of deep drafts or shallow there are just years for whatever reasons like 2003, and 2015, where there are people with first round grades through the 40th or 50th pick, and then years where there aren't more than 15-20 players who have first round grades.
And this happens in all sports. Like why is it there are a handful of top 5 caliber WR in one NFL draft, and then the next year it is a bit of a wasteland, and you see 3rd round type talents in past years being talked about in the first round the next. Same things happen in all sports.
I mean, I don't know. I wouldn't be so dismissive of the possibility.Guys they aren’t trading up. Look at the teams above them in the draft. They all want high impact forwards too.

McAvoy - 27 years old
Swayman - 26 years old
The Bruins need this pick to be a player sooner rather than later for their core's 'window.' Trading up gets you an elite player to grow with these guys. It's atleast a non-zero chance to happen and fun to talk about when there's not much going on with this team at the moment.
Look at the standings they are sitting at # 9 with 2 teams about to jump them. That pick is going to get better yet with this roster.Great, but it means you have to have things to give away. Personally I think the team would be a bit crazy right now to trade a 26 #1.
Look if you tell me you can swap #9 , Lysell, the 2 #2s and get into the top 3, then yeah I make that trade. I'd give anyone on the Providence roster today instead of Lysell. But if I am running a team with a top 3 pick, I fire my GM if he makes that deal. I guess maybe you could use the future Toronto or Florida pick (depending), but again, I don't think that gets you into the top 3 from 9
GM's for the most part are risk averse. No one wants to be the GM who trades away the next 12 time all star.
Let’s hope they win the lottery. That would be super.Look at the standings they are sitting at # 9 with 2 teams about to jump them. That pick is going to get better yet with this roster.
If the Bruins won the lottery and the team with #2 pick really wanted Schaefer, I would swap with them and pick up an extra pick or picks, because Misa would be my #1 target.Let’s hope they win the lottery. That would be super.
I'd take Schafer and parley Lorhei and/or Chucky for a more established #1 (early to mid 20 age)If the Bruins won the lottery and the team with #2 pick really wanted Schaefer, I would swap with them and pick up an extra pick or picks, because Misa would be my #1 target.
Another possibility yes, I just really like Misa and think he is the best player in this draft, if it were the 26 draft , then no question McKenna.I'd take Schafer and parley Lorhei and/or Chucky for a more established #1 (early to mid 20 age)
If you trade McAvoy it’s a total rebuild and you have to move Swayman & Pastrnak as well. I don’t subscribe to that plan. Schaefer isn’t going to skate in on day one and take Mac’s minutesI'd take Schafer and parley Lorhei and/or Chucky for a more established #1 (early to mid 20 age)
If you draft at a position where Hagens, Misa and Desnoyers are gone you draft O´Brien. Exactly the players you take a chance on. Great IQ, great athlete, PPG player in the league since being 16 years old and last year rookie of the year in the OHL. Flaws are that he has to fill out his body and his physicality.
Bruins love trading away super stars forI kind of felt like depressing myself a bit this morning so I took a look at the Bruins draft picks in the top 10 since 1995
Kyle Mclaren
Jonathan Aitken
Joe Thornton
Sergei Samsonov
Lars Jonsson
Phil Kessel
Zach Hamill
Tyler Seguin
Dougie Hamilton (last one in 2011)
3 pure busts and the none of them ended up making a full career with the team, most moved on quite young. I don't know what it means, if anything, but the draft thread got me thinking about it since they are likely to pick in the top 10 this for the first time a long time. They've picked some good/great players in those spots in the past, but it would be nice if they could get someone that will play at a high level for 10-12 seasons with them.

Aren't there defensemen rated higher than O'Brien that the Bruins could draft?
