2025 NHL Draft Thread

Yeah, narratives can be a bit weird. Dickinson, Number 11 pick is "perfect number 2" (if they get Schaefer) but for Hawks, Nazar, Number 13 pick, is part of "Hawks are bare after Bedard"

There was a whole bunch of whining that the Sharks rebuild is going way better than the Hawks' earlier in the year. Funny we don't hear about that as much recently. They have a whopping 8 more goals in 3 more games played so its not like they're losing a bunch of barn burners.

of note SJ has 3 (1) 4 (2) 1 (3) in the next 3 drafts and we have 4 (1) 7(2) 3(3) along with 2 4th this year and 2 next year. we have the most draft currency of any team at this point of any team

The San Jose hype was after they acquired Askarov on the heels of Soderblom being a shit show last season. Soda blossoming and looking like an actual NHL goalie with Askarov struggling has changed the narrative. Askarov very well could pull a Soda and go from suck to living up to his hype in which case that is a big piece going forward. While there are pieces to like with the Sharks rebuild, I would not trade with them at this point.

The Hawks have their D prospect pool far advanced in both quantity and proximity to the NHL. San Jose even if they land Shaefer this draft will not have a single D prospect of significance the other side of teenager and even then it would still be having to "hit" on all of Dickinson, Shaefer, and Wallenius just to get to 3 home grown D men. With how long D take to develop, I would much rather have Vlassic pencilled in as a proven NHL D and Allen, Kaiser, EDM, Crevier, Lev, and Korch all cutting their teeth playing against men and Rinzel likely joining them in a couple of months. D development is a longer road and the Sharks best options are teenagers playing other teenagers.

preds and Buff have a few east games before the break, hopefully a OT game when they paly twice

KD needs to aggressively ship out any short term deals that can increase their equity at a top 3 pick, at this rate it seems like people would be happy with either schaefer or misa/hagens
