I just can't force myself to be impressed with Frondell. He scored four points in this game, and yet his two assists were nothing passes and his two goals were on the PP where he was left completely unguarded in the circle and had tons of time to handle the puck and pick a corner. He turned the puck over a bunch of times on thoughtless passes and didn't carry the puck for more than a couple seconds at a time. Young Eklund (#38) scores less on account of not being on the top PP unit like Frondell is. That's the disparity between their stats. Frondell initiates contact, but he got severely outmuscled every time. I just don't see top line skill at all. Probably the one guy whom we could realistically take at 3 that would make me absolutely livid.

He's really shot back up the mocks again too. Frondell is probably 25 lbs heavier than Eklund but looks much weaker

Obviously a much different player than Dahlen too. We should be more confident Frondell will stick at center than either Hagens or Misa considering he's playing the position at 17 in a good pro league.

Can I buy being "confident" that Frondell is an Nhl center and Misa/Hagens not, because it's an opinion. But, Frondell isn't playing center, he's on the wing the center has been Weigel in every game.

Honestly if we don't get Schaefer I don't really care who we take between Frondell, Misa, Martone, Hagens, Desnoyers, maybe even throw Mrtka into the mix. All have their advantages and flaws, none of them really profile like guaranteed stars.

I would personally go with Misa. Elite talent and I don't see any real weaknesses.

I don't expect Frondell to get significantly heavier overall but he's on the younger side of this draft class and could definitely build more muscle. If we draft him I'd try to get him on the Barracuda right away and working with our development staff on strength and conditioning.

Misa may not have any weaknesses but he doesn't seem to have any elite tools either. Hagens is too small unless the plan is to trade Eklund or Smith. Ultimately we just really need Schaefer and this year is going to feel like a huge disappointment if we end up with anybody else IMO.

I'm becoming more of a Misa fanboy, and I don't think it's as big a drop off this year from Schaefer to #2 like it was last year (I'd be terribly disappointed in any of the next 4 picks except Demidov right now, and even he isn't the core piece Celebrini is or maybe even Smith).

Misa has all around talent, again as I've been saying kind of like a smaller Marleau but maybe a better finisher and slightly worse skater, which is no knock as Patty's skating was probably his best trait and NHL elite. In the OHL Misa is displaying elite finishing talent and he also is a very good playmaker. I don't know/bet that this translates to elite spikes in the NHL, but I think he's an incredibly complimentary player to our forward group as a future W or C, I don't agree that his game won't translate to C (it might, it might not, but it's not clear to me why it wouldn't) and it's probably underselling him to describe him like e.g. Helenius last year, who is far more of a "lots of good but nothing great" C prospect.

His chemistry with Chernyshov doesn’t hurt either.

He's definitely a better prospect than Helenius. Maybe Stutzle is a potential ceiling if everything goes right in Misa's development?

This is a ceiling that I visualize. A little better finisher and worse playmaker, but better defensively.

I use to watch Patty skate in the early 2000's at sharks ice. Arguably best skater in the league in his prime. Patty skated like a God. which is why he was able to play for so long.

he was still fast at the end but he mainly lost his hands and strength over the last 4-5 years. shows how player decline isn't just speed.

Yes, even in his final season he had, at minimum, NHL-average speed (and given his age and how much the league has gotten faster, I can only imagine how fast he was relative to the league in his prime - I didn't have any interest in hockey back then).

It really was his puckhandling that cratered. He could move, he was still big and could work on the boards, he was willing to be physical, but he just couldn't do anything with the puck at all.

Patty made skating so effortless. He’d push off twice and be on a breakaway. If he had better hands he would’ve been a surefire Hall of Famer.
