Or some retained salary? They would definitely want value for taking on Yoshida, but I would be happy to oblige.

I actually believe a healthy Yoshida is the 23 first half guyI would not be against a Yoshida/Castillo deal. They you could move Raffy to DH and sign Bregman. Or keep Raffy at 3B and sign Hernandez
The scouts have him rated a 60 overall, so he will make the majors, just a question how good he will be? We will have to wait 2-3 years as I cannot see him making his debut until 2027.I want to go back to this tweet. Am I the only one who feels led astray by the "no other big names" report? I would absolutely consider Montgomery a big name.
If their present OF situation wasn’t what it is I don’t include himThe scouts have him rated a 60 overall, so he will make the majors, just a question how good he will be? We will have to wait 2-3 years as I cannot see him making his debut until 2027.
At 6'2 220 lbs, a rocket of an arm and proven college hitter, I would agree with you, he is a big name.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane.I will do Red Sox - hated the Cecil Cooper for George Scott trade (my all timer - and when I met Jim Rice 25 years ago I said I don’t want to bother you for an autograph I just went to say I’m still pissed about the Cooper trade. For a second he was processing it because he didn’t expect it, then laughed and gave me a ball at his insistence for my kid who was not there)
Hated the Reggie Smith deal to St Louis
Fred Lynn deal
Theo signing Mike Cameron
Hated not resigning Eovoldi & Wacha
Hated FA signings of Hanley Ramirez & Pablo Sandoval
Betts obviously
The Lester deal to Oakland
Hated Duquette deal of Jamie Moyer for Darren Bragg
Hated Ben ‘banana man’ Oglivie for washed up Dick McAuliffe
Hated the Jack Clark, Danny Darwin, and the Matt Young
Hated signing Kenley Jansen
Hated Sparky Lyle for Danny Cater. Lyle incidentally lived st the time in North Shore Gardens in Peabody - same time and place as Bobby Orr, Ross Lonsberry, Joe Watson, Eddie J, and trainer John Forrstall (Watson & Lonsberry went to Broad Street Bullies & won 2 Cups)
Bloom wasn’t a fan so most of his moves were not to my liking
I did like
Story
Vazquez & Renfroe deals because I knew he got good prospects
Sale deal - like Grissom
Whitlock rule 5
He lost me on Eovoldi & Wacha
trading Rick Burleson
Theo - signing Lugo hated
Schilling deal liked
Eckersley deal with Indians for Wise, Paxton, a 3B Cooper ? Guy who went 5/5 or something crazy
Hated Tony C deal for Doug Griffin & Tatum the reliever
Loved Pedro deal for kid from Dartmouth Rose & the other P name escapes
Loved loved midnight deal by Duke for Varitek & Lowe for that stiff Heathcliffe Slocunb
Hated Ken ‘the Hawk’ Harrelson for Sonny Seibert
Hated friend of DKH, John Tudor for Mike Easler
Hated letting Clemons go and signing Steve Avery & Shane Mack
Loved the Beltre & Victor Martinez signing
This is off top of my head probably 100 more
It was off the top of my head lolThanks for the trip down memory lane.
People forget that Boomer was a multiple gold glove winner.
You forgot the Nomar for Cabrera / Mientkiewicz trade that got us a WS and the Carney Lansford trade which I loved.
I wished we did not trade Reggie Smith either, he was a great player, as long as he was healthy.
They already have him.....Michael Fulmer!Who is the cheapest reclamation pitcher out there? That's who they will sign.
Speier threw water on the Casas-Castillo stuff thank godIt was off the top of my head lol
I’m a home grown core guy like what Bruins did, Celtics now, Sox in 60’s & 70’s….not keeping Betts, Devers, Bogearts, Benintendi seemed that but went haywire
Right now you got : Devers, Duran, Rafaela, Casas, Mayer, Anthony, Abreu, Campbell, Bello, Houck, Whitlock, crochet
Young core - keep it
If it’s for Casas get earplugs you will hear me
Speier threw water on the Casas-Castillo stuff thank god
Agreed and we still have two decent OF prospects in Bleis / Garcia. If their present OF situation wasn’t what it is I don’t include him
Duran went from INF to OF
Seems like Campbell could do the same
Casas has 25 floor 40+ ceiling while driving up pitch counts and getting on baseThe report is they added Montgomery to the Crochet trade cause they got desperate after the Fried deal.
Can't rule out another stupid move made out of desperation.
I've turned into Randy Quaid in Major League 2.

Most likely considering the timing of the trade. Which also rules out Burnes.
This is what happens when you back yourself into a corner and teams know you are desperate. You have to overpay.
This off-season is shaping up to be worse than the last couple of years, which is hard to accomplish.
Yes.Has anything posted in this thread been correct in regards to the end result?
If the post is claiming the Red Sox are still cheap then yes.Has anything posted in this thread been correct in regards to the end result?
We seem more negative than the general vibe on SOSH but I wouldnt have it any other way!Yes.
This thread is great. We have about 10 very passionate posters who as far as my view are top 10% discussing baseball
Excellent for a hockey board
Yup, no move is always better than a bad one.
I still can't believe we gave up both Teel and Montgomery for someone who is far from a sure thing. And for what? A third place roster at best?

And over what? 1 year and 20m they bid less than the Yanks for Fried? That's what prospects are worth to them.
But one good year is obviously good enough to do a victory lap and declare Crochet an ace when he has never proven that even once in his career (Innings count as well).
Of course they are. No first class franchise would have gone out trading assets for a player when there are still equivalent options being available for just money (and a draft pick). That's a terrible look. it's a move you'd expect from the mid markets of the league who put a lot of value in the fact that Crochet is only going to cost them 3m for the upcoming season, because they can't afford high salaries. The only way this should have mattered to the Sox is if they had already went way over the threshold and Crochet was the last puzzle to make them an instant contender. But somehow they are still like 50-60m under.
What these clowns are doing is truly shameful. Acting like they are heavily invested in getting a player like Soto is even more of a mockery. They had no shot at all and I doubt Soto even took them serious. Nobody without homer glasses ever thought he was coming here. Any real representative like Boras would advice against it. What did they even tell Soto? We are going to build a powerhouse by being interested in everyone and/or that we are going to reap the precious farm system that took years and lots of losses and last place finishes to build up?
Not even one player from the farm of the "rebuilding years" has made it to the majors yet and they have already traded some significant portions of it. That just doesn't feel right. What they are doing is buying cheap wins to get to 90 wins to be somewhat relevant and within the wildcard spots.
