2025 DRAFT Discussion

D+2 or +3 season. I think Detroit makes the playoffs next season and the window officially opens 2026-27. I could see some similarities with Brad Stuart where people view him as an offensive defenseman, but he develops in the NHL as a highly mobile defensive defenseman with some bite.

That sounds decent. A Brad Stuart like clone would be a solid addition.

Detroit makes the playoffs next season... without even watching the whole offseason. Lol. Right, so there's being hopeful, and hoping.

Almost just as bad as me saying they'll miss it... (They've only got literal "months" to make the team better). I don't think real solid opinions can be made till about August. That's when you'll see how the roster look vs now. Top four defensemen could be different, Top lines could be different, hell a goalie could be even moved and another brought in, etc, etc, etc. Then we're just not even mentioning, at all, what other teams did.

Bultman just did a new Athletic article on forward targets. Mentioned Eklund, Bear, Lakovic, Carbonneau, and Reschny.

He was at the combine with the other Athletic prospect guys, so IMO this could represent a bit of what he heard this week.

Edit - all 5 were interviewed by Wings or were going to be, per Bultman.

Probably Yzerman fils very comfortable with our centers and defansman pools. It's also probably means that Larkin doesn't go anywhere, remember he has excellent contract .

So Eklund, Lakovic, Bear, Carbonneu and Reschny.

Well this doesn't mean anything yet but since they interviewed Eklund, chance that he might be available at 13th definitely increases. Eklund would be a steal, small size will drop him few spots but skill set is firmly in the top-10 of this draft class.

Reschny is a surprise, is Stevie seeing some Point in him? I've seen many Granlund comparisons, i'd say that sounds accurate but im surprised to see him interviewed after Stevie's comment about big bodies.

Lakovic. There's the big body but bambi-nature so not exactly what the management has been talking about. But there's that high upside what people has demanded and still falls in the hard play against-category. Just in the other zone, that we've been use to see from players drafted by the Wings.

Carbonneau is perhaps even bigger surprise than Reschny. Stevie haven't been a fan of products from Quebec. Physically mature kid and weak junior league, doesn't sound a good mix and especially when his IQ being questioned. Carbonneau sounds a lot like Puljujärvi.

I like what i hear from Bear, what comes to my mind is more skilled Mazur but with a weaker shot. That's OK in my book, imo Mazur's been under rated by many Wings fans. More skilled version would be fine but that injury still worries me. It got torned once, so it's not strong as it was before. So what are the chances it gets torned again?

All of them are wingers, expect Reschny but if he makes it probably a winger too. Surprised that Aitcheson, Nesbitt, Cootes werent interviewed. Unless they are already dead set picking Mace'o Phillips in the 2nd round.

Eric Nilson is an interesting one. He's a very impressive athlete for 166 lbs. Cam Schmidt, too. Unfortunately both will certainly be gone before the 44th pick.
If the plan is to pick and not use them for trades I'd have np to trade up. Use a berggren or whoever, picks to move up

75&76 to say 55 if someone we really like is still there. Or 75 and 44 to to move up to 37. Anyways I think it's time we get aggressive

Would be good with any of those 5, although I do prefer the first 4.

The only way I would take Reschny at 13 is if I had some belief he could make good gains in the skating/strength department. I do like that he’s going to the NCAA next year from that perspective.

I was really hoping for Bill Zonnon in round 2, but that will probably be another one that goes inbetween our 1st and 2nd pick.

Thar said, I like Luca Romano and Theo Stockselius as options for round 2. I think they both have the tools to be a good middle 6 center.

Reschny just had 25 points in 11 playoff games , he was also been excellent in finals U18 .

like you see in stanley cup guys like perry , bennet , the rat , etc are more valuable during playoffs when it matters than very high scoring guys during regular season whom arent as productive in playoffs . so im wondering if theres a list of the most clutch prospects ? and im thinking thats a bug factor for zito when building a team
