Potter will be available at 13, probably has higher upside than Martin, you could even trade down for him
I think we definitely WOULDN’T have a shot at him if he didnt get hurt. He wouldve likely been sniffing top 5. Im all for taking him if his injury recovery is progressing well.I'm really liking the tape I've seen of Bear. It sure seems like he has a lot of the qualities that Detroit values, too. I'm not sure we'd even have a shot at him if he hadn't gotten hurt.
What do you want from them? Realistically?Come on Grier you said you'd be open to trading, you owe us future considerations and you scooped a first for walman
I want us to send them future considerations in a deal and have them wait and see how it feels to be waiting for future considerations to come but never comingWhat do you want from them? Realistically?

Potter's upside is pretty limited. Apart from his skating, he really doesn't bring much to the table that is projectible at the NHL level. We don't need small, dumb perimeter players. For those with a fetish for small, undersized forwards, Kindel is a much better option.
If we are after that type, I would just take Amico in the 2nd round. People will call it a Cleveland pick, but I think the kid is substantially better. I have time for Smith and Aitcheson at 13, but like you, I am not jonsing for Mrtka in that spot.I think Mrtka is a guy who can munch some minutes on the right side.
But, why do we think we need that?
ASP has done nothing but impress us since drafting him. I’ve always projected him to be a guy like Vatanen during his Anaheim days. Really good 2nd pair guy who makes a living on the power play.
If Mrtka had some dynamic quality other than size, sure. But from what I saw he is pretty vanilla. Moreso than I was expecting based on his production and ranking at least.
I do think he could help with the PK, but if we are drafting a guy to do that I would much prefer taking Aitcheson who plays the left side and plays with a ton more bite.
Does anyone really expect Aitcheson to still be there at 13? You have three pairings, a right side with Seider, Mrtka and ASP would be one of the best in the league. I'm not pounding the table for Mrtka or anything, but he's been compared to Colton Parayko, e.g. not a bruiser but a really good defender with great mobility for his size.I think Mrtka is a guy who can munch some minutes on the right side.

You have issues with Mrtka's skating? That is the one thing I fell reasonably comfortable with.Ugh…
Ogee never passes on a chance to let us know his feelings on Mrtka. That's fine, but like I said I'm not pounding the table for Mrtka or anything. It's more BPA as far as I'm concerned. You have issues with Mrtka's skating? That is the one thing I fell reasonably comfortable with.

I also think there is a greater than 50% chance that whoever we take gets included in a trade at some point in the next couple of years.Ogee never passes on a chance to let us know his feelings on Mrtka. Why wouldn’t we just deal a future 1st? I would just trade back 5-6 spots and get a 2nd and deal that pick now for someoneI also think there is a greater than 50% chance that whoever we take gets included in a trade at some point in the next couple of years.
