2025 DRAFT Discussion

Anyone know much of jack murtagh??? Been reading up on him and hes apparently a fast skater slotted later in the 1st round but hes already 6'1 200 and this what caught my eye only turns 18 in august

Hes basically a year younger than most these guys so could be more upside there... apparently he needs to work on his defensive game but yzermans drafted those guys in abundance

I'd have to check into him more but hes caught my eye

I'm really liking the tape I've seen of Bear. It sure seems like he has a lot of the qualities that Detroit values, too. I'm not sure we'd even have a shot at him if he hadn't gotten hurt.
I think we definitely WOULDN’T have a shot at him if he didnt get hurt. He wouldve likely been sniffing top 5. Im all for taking him if his injury recovery is progressing well.

I think Mrtka is a guy who can munch some minutes on the right side.

But, why do we think we need that?

ASP has done nothing but impress us since drafting him. I’ve always projected him to be a guy like Vatanen during his Anaheim days. Really good 2nd pair guy who makes a living on the power play.

If Mrtka had some dynamic quality other than size, sure. But from what I saw he is pretty vanilla. Moreso than I was expecting based on his production and ranking at least.

I do think he could help with the PK, but if we are drafting a guy to do that I would much prefer taking Aitcheson who plays the left side and plays with a ton more bite.

Potter will be available at 13, probably has higher upside than Martin, you could even trade down for him

Potter's upside is pretty limited. Apart from his skating, he really doesn't bring much to the table that is projectible at the NHL level. We don't need small, dumb perimeter players. For those with a fetish for small, undersized forwards, Kindel is a much better option.

Or Reschny, whose stock also seems to be climbing. Undersized center but had a great WHL playoffs and very good U18.

If we are after that type, I would just take Amico in the 2nd round. People will call it a Cleveland pick, but I think the kid is substantially better. I have time for Smith and Aitcheson at 13, but like you, I am not jonsing for Mrtka in that spot.

Does anyone really expect Aitcheson to still be there at 13? You have three pairings, a right side with Seider, Mrtka and ASP would be one of the best in the league. I'm not pounding the table for Mrtka or anything, but he's been compared to Colton Parayko, e.g. not a bruiser but a really good defender with great mobility for his size.

If we are going to be elite at anything it's likely to be defense. We aren't getting 90+ point forwards, neither Cossa nor Augustine are looking at this stage of their development as being Vezina caliber goalies, so taking the guy who appears to be BPA isn't the worst thing. He'd also have good trade value given how many teams need RHD.

Ugh…

Ogee never passes on a chance to let us know his feelings on Mrtka. That's fine, but like I said I'm not pounding the table for Mrtka or anything. It's more BPA as far as I'm concerned.
I also think there is a greater than 50% chance that whoever we take gets included in a trade at some point in the next couple of years.

- was it mrtka who looked like a deer in headlites when the smaller martin crushed him ? looked dumb n fragile

- no small one dimensional shooting forwards

- carbo is rugged / decent size / has shot

- lakovic has offensive talent n reach n skating n smarts . hes young , imagine if he beefs up to 215lb

Why do people want Martin so bad? His stats in the regular season don't seem great and his playoff stats are bad. I know stats are everything, but he is also small.

I mean, this defense would be one of the best in the league.

Edvinsson - Seider
Gavrikov - ASP
X - Mrtka

Every guy would be capable of playing 20-25 minutes. Three of them would be capable of 50+ points per season. Gavrikov, Seider and Mrtka would greatly improve the PK.

We would only need one of Johansson^2, Buium, Wallinder or Brady Cleveland to hit as our 6th defender.

I like Lakovic more than I liked Danielson . still raw and needs to develop right.
