Tony Ferrari from THN talks a bit about the draft here. Had some encouraging things to say about Eklund vs. Frondell. It kind of reaffirms to me that Eklund made Frondell better at the end of the year.
I still maintain you guys were too damn high on Rossi/Eklund. But they are starting to show some promise, for sure.My Ogee sense is tingling when I watch this prospect for the ‘it’ factor. I’ve got a lot more hits than misses when I feel a certain way about a prospect. (Still waiting for @The Zetterberg Era to eat crow about Rossi)
TLDR; He’s realgud and reminds me of a few other prospects I thought were realgud and are now successful top 6 NHLers. Anything from a 20-25g guy to a 70+ point guy. Lots of others in the 10-20 range look to have much less potential than that, in my opinion.
This is for you, @Frk It . A Lynden Lakovic discussion.
I like the IDEA of Lakovic more than Lakovic himself. I don’t expect him to ever be a bruiser and if we pick him there will always be wings fans that wish he was more physical. I do like the skill level and can see the scoring potential there. Maybe an Alex Tuch? If that’s the highest talent level on the board when the wings pick 11 to 13 and my other favorites are gone then so be it.

Why would we trade down? We don’t need more volume of picks we need difference makersThere are 4 teams that have two first rounders after our pick, I wouldn't be surprised if we traded down if one of them wants to move up.
It's a weak draft, especially in the 11-14 range. Two chances at a "difference maker" is better than one.Why would we trade down? We don’t need more volume of picks we need difference makers

Agreed Yzerman needs to go full Kevin Costner in Draft day.Maybe we should trade up instead?
If we were Carolina, maybe, but Yzerman is different fruit. It's a weak draft, especially in the 11-14 range. Two chances at a "difference maker" is better than one.
Aitcheson kid reminds me of Kronwall not the biggest but a big hitter. Who can play as well.If we're drafting 12-14, might be prime spot to grab that Aitcherson (sp?) kid and add some grit to the blueline. Not the biggest guy, but if he can be a 2nd pair guy who really embraces the rough stuff, I wouldn't mind it. If he has modest puck skills, might be interesting paired with ASP, a Sydor to ASP's Zubov.
Yzerman’s first three years of 1st round picks were home runs. The last three don’t seem to be as good though they need more time for sure. I want him to draft a high end offensive forward. No more two way, high IQ, high character guys with high floors and low ceilings.
Or maybe that’s the strategy as they’ve not done very well in 2nd round and beyond and must have the 1st round make it so they are more likely to make the safer pick?
I am usually not this blunt with my red and white brethren, but this is the dumbest thing I've read in these parts, since I blocked ShanahanMan.Yzerman’s first three years of 1st round picks were home runs. There is nothing to add.So, in 2022, 23 and 24 which picks AFTER Detroit are better than Detroit’s players in the 1st? Which picks after 8, 9, 17 and 15 in those years are doing better than who Detroit chose, and are playing a more important role for their team aside from maybe Hage at UM?
Marco Kasper has been a top 3 or 4 rookie in the league since January 1.
Nate Danielson has been on fire the last month on, if memory is correct, the lowest scoring team to qualify for the AHL playoffs.
ASP has won best defenseman in the WJC u20 TWICE and was the top U21 player in the SHL
Trey Augustine (2nd rounder, I know) is a top 3 goalie prospect (IMO, better than Cossa)and won back to back gold for team USA.
MBN carried his team in the postseason last year and was a beast in the postseason this year.
I said the last three years of 1st round draft picks don’t seem to be as good as the first three years. Are you suggesting Kasper, Danielson, ASP, and MBN will be better than Raymond, Seider, Edvinson, and Cossa? So, in 2022, 23 and 24 which picks AFTER Detroit are better than Detroit’s players in the 1st? I think drafting pretty much just Augustine in the 2nd round or beyond is proof they haven’t drafted AS well as they could have in those later rounds. They did get some decent depth pieces there though.
Again, you think saying Kasper, Danielson, ASP, and MBN are not as good as the first three years of 1st round is dumb?
I would have liked Zach Benson at least.
Then again, the wings win meaningless games in a couple of those season to prevent them from getting a higher pick and the likely better player. If you think Kasper, Danielson, and MBN are the solution, good luck with that. You better be drafting some superstars in the later rounds. Or signing/trading for them. I do like ASP though.
He's 6'1" 200 pounds, he's already bigger than Kronwall ever was. He's got enough size anyways that his mean streak can definitely translate to the next level.Aitcheson kid reminds me of Kronwall not the biggest but a big hitter. Who can play as well.
Would love if he's our guy.

I would hope for a little bit more of someone that can score depending where they pick, but I wouldn't hate Aitcheson, they actually need dmen a bit
sitting at 12 currently with a 5% chance at #2 . my current players at 12 are martin - carbonneua - lakovic
