Aitcheson top10 NA according to Central Scouting???? Good, hopefully somebody else is in love with him and that pushes Eklund to us. Do not know what games these scouts been watching, but Aitcheson is not the QB on that Barrie PP. He basically plays in the "Kucherov spot", hence the goals. He is not the brains, but the trigger man, cuz his puck skills aint that great and I watched video on him extensively over the weekend.

Well you just gave a reason as to why someone would want to trade the 14th pick this year . Cause they might not get as good a player at 14 in 2025

I am referring to the NYI. What incentive would Uncle Lou would have to do that trade?

I am confused. Are you suggesting that we only draft defensemen if we can expect them to QB a PP? That seems like a very narrow pool of players, especially in a down draft.

I would have zero issues taking Aitcheson in the 12-14 range even though I don't expect him to be a PP contributor.

Realistically I think it is pretty safe to say these guys are going to be off the board by the time we pick: Misa, Schaefer, Martone, Hagens, Frondell

So we are probably looking at the following 10-11 guys: Viktor Eklund, James O'Brien, Roger McQueen, Caleb Desnoyers, Carter Bear, Jackson Smith, Brady Martin, Kashawn Aitcheson, Lynden Lakovic, Justin Carbonneau, Radim Mrtka

Which one of these guys do you like? Which ones do you want to avoid? Anyone want to rank them in order of who you’d want Detroit to pick?

It’s the only one I know of that included feedback from NHL scouted. The final list should be out in a month or so.

Tough thing about being #2-3 on the Euro list is they don’t combine it with NA skaters. Sometimes the #2-3 guys get picked in the 2nd round, just depends on the year.

Well frondell eklund will be top 10 have a hard time believing no one will take another euro player first round. I'll have to do some research on the top 10-20 euro's must be a few good ones that'll come out from there

Nesbitt caught my eye and hes 15 now north American, like his size I'll have do check all these guys out next few months

Oh I know first rounders dont typically est ufa and it's way too early but you just never know. Gauthier forced his way out of Philadelphia and I think I heard someone hasn't signed yet??

The order you have them in is really similar to how I'd put them.

Eklund- I like the skill and smarts. Wanted his brother and I think Victor is as skilled/creative while being a bit more industrious. Plus I think this is our most likely pick (if he's there) and so I've been trying to sell myself haha.

Jake O'Brien- love the passing and vision. Seems like he has the off ice mentality that the Wings like. I'm a little worried that he stops moving his feet and I don't want another big guy that drifts. I think he's good enough that I probably take him if he's there, but I don't know if the wings would. We really like high motor players.

I have a lot of time for Ben Kindel- wouldn't mind reaching for him- but I doubt the Wings go for it.

Lakovic- I think I'd find him a little frustrating because he's big and not a bruiser...but I see a lot of Johan Franzen there and that appeals to me.

Martin and Bear probably come next for me. I think they both have more scoring potential than they generally get credit for and I think their industriousness will appeal a lot to the wings. They're guys whose games just work. They feel right.

I think Smith is my favorite of the defenseman though I've been leaning forward in general. Skating, size and enough offense to believe that he can move the puck at the next level. I think he'd appeal a lot to Yzerman and Draper. If Eklund isn't there, I bet this is the pick.

I like Carbonneau but I also think he's pretty similar to MBN and would rather target someone that brings some different elements to the table.

Desnoyers feels a little bland to me. Does things well, but his game doesn't pop for me.

I don't love Aitchesson and Mrtka. Plays seem to die on their sticks too often for me. They're fine and I haven't seen them enough to be too harsh. People often talk about how smooth and smart Mrtka is. I don't really feel that way so maybe I'm out to lunch. Smith just seems more comfortable and effective with the puck. I'm not sure if the stats bear that out.

I'm a little scared of McQueen's back. I don't mind the player but I'd rather avoid him. If the Wings doctors give them the go ahead, then fine. I honestly think modern sports medicine has gotten so good that injuries shouldn't matter so much in evaluating prospects. That doesn't apply to back issues.
