Read this and it’s hard not to see Brady Martin being very high on the Wings draft list.
This is looking like a poor draft after 15, abd that the 2nd round is closer to an average draft’s 3rd round.
Hearing that guys going in the top 5 projecting as 2nd liners does not give me much confidence.

This is a good speculation topic. What good overagers are out there? I went through my mock draft and checked whom went undrafted.Yzerman been drafting more overages lately and this draft expect even more of them get drafted by Wings.
Start scout some 19-21 year olds
I would take a chance on this kid: Will Felicio - Stats, Contract, Salary & MoreThis is a good speculation topic. What good overagers are out there? I went through my mock draft and checked whom went undrafted.
- Aidan Park, my 4th round pick from last summer. Doing well in USHL, 2nd most points in the league and heading to University of Michigan next season. I'd pick him again this summer, fits in "Draperplan" very well.
- Daniel Shlaine, didn't make my final list but he was in the discussions. 10th in USHL scoring and Minnesota-Duluth is his next address.
- Carson Pilgrim, my 6th round pick from last summer. A bit behind of Mazur's pace but Mazur already had one season played in USHL before he was picked. Heading to North Dakota.
- Lee Parks, double overager like Becher. Parks was nearly my first 7th round pick last summer but i took Shahan instead. Seems like a decent start in UMass-Lowell.
- Kaden Shahan, my 7th round pick from last summer. 6 goals and 6th best goal scorer in the team but also worst +/-. Plays for Univ. of Connecticut.
- Hugo Lejon, i took James Reeder in the 5th round over Lejon. And im actually surprised he wasn't picked, what's wrong with him? High scoring player in the junior leagues and currently 7 goals in 11 games in Allsvenskan.
I mentioned him earlier in the thread. He screams red wings pick, depending where theyre picking

I don't think I would pick anyone currently playing for the NTDP in the top 20. There are probably some interesting options for round 2 and beyond, though. It looks like a not so realgud USNTDP draft year, but how are we feeling about Jack Murtagh and Cole McKinney? McKenna compared Murtagh to Leonard.
He’s a polarizing prospect with the “positive” side of that pole being size and skating. Those who have watched him a lot are mostly in the “negative” camp because he exhibits poor skill and low hockey IQ. I have little interest in a prospect when the argument is “big man skate well.” Granted he’s new to the OHL, so maybe he’ll have a wild stretch of improvement, but it’s not looking good so far. I’d definitely rather swing for the fences with a skilled guy than become mesmerized by size and athleticism. If we pick in the 18+ range how about the Chinese big kid ??? I dont know much about him and I'll have to look into it more but I seen him as a late 1st rounder possibility
Turns 18 only in the summer and says hes going to boston university with likely hutson, eiserman there
Its suppose to not be a deep draft so I wouldnt be against it unless someone intriguing drops when our turn comes
Fair enough, not going to pretend to know much about him but if were picking around 20ish I'd rather just take a chance and take a swingHe’s a polarizing prospect with the “positive” side of that pole being size and skating. Wallinder has one more year on ELC after this one, Tuo and Viro are not waiver exempt starting next season.Fair enough, not going to pretend to know much about him but if were picking around 20ish I'd rather just take a chance and take a swing
Our scouts etc... would know more and I should probably check him out a few times since hes in the ohl.
We might have to draft a few dmen this year cause if wallinder is out of options we'll basically cleveland buium and anton Johansson left. Obviously depends when we draft and who's there
Isnt wallinder out of waiver options next season??? I have np keeping tuomisto around for 15-20 games as the 6-8th dman and see if theres anything thereWallinder has one more year on ELC after this one, Tuo and Viro are not waiver exempt starting next season.
The wings will draft a couple D this draft regardless, keep the cupboard as full as you can, while you can.

Viro Is gone as far as I'm concerned maybe g.r player but I dont know if he'll have a shot here
Well I think the last few years we havent drafted many dmen so ya we have to start filling up younger dmen to hopefully make a run here in 3-4 yrs
Is wallinder out of waivers next season though? I suspect he will be since he'll be 23Here is the current draftees not yet signed...and their ages, the wings typically draft a mix of players, usually the best available at the time and out of the 7 spots, I would guess that a 4-2-1 ratio of F-D-G is loosely followed. The have used more higher picks for D since SY arrived, but even out of the 1st rounders he took
Raymond, Kasper, Danielson and MBN (4F)
Mo, Ed and ASP (3D)
Cossa (1G)
So a 4-3-1 ration, as he had some extra picks
The wings have basically graduated 3 defensemen and will likely have a 4th and maybe a 5th by the end of next season, all under 25.
A good steady stream of bottom 3 D-Men coming along is a good thing for cost control

I hope we sign Stange he's had a really nice season since transferring to Nebraska. Like to see what he brings to a pro game. Here is the current draftees not yet signed...and their ages, the wings typically draft a mix of players, usually the best available at the time and out of the 7 spots, I would guess that a 4-2-1 ratio of F-D-G is loosely followed. The waiver exemption calculation is more than a little wonky...and has a lot of nuances, so I may be correct or not. I think Tuo either ages out (even though he had a 2 year ELC) due to total pro game (non-NHL), here is where I miss cap friendly, they had it all laid out, but he might still be waiver exempt until age 26, if so, he has another year, but I am pretty sure he doesn't.Is wallinder out of waivers next season though? I suspect he will be since he'll be 23
I was talking about the d prospect pool we have coming being limited. Pellikka we know will get a shot soon + wallinder
When I look after that I'd say its buium, cleveland and anton Johansson and not much else which is why I said I'd suspect we draft more.
Granted we drafted whipple and a few guys im not too familiar with but wouldnt expect much. Viro I suspect will move on tuomisto might get a shot next season as the 6-8th guy
Not worried about the forward or goaltending prospect pool and I love our future possible top 4 in edvinsson seider pellikka johansson but I'd say yzerman will try to replenish the d pool
I'd try and grab jiri Fischer's kid in saint Louis, 19 and by the time hed be ready would be 3-4 years. Maybe convince them to take wallinder
Anyways not too worried about the teams draft pool just noticed the d core is starting to thin out

Wallinder is still on his 3 year ELC next season and be under 25 next year, so I would think he will still have waiver exemption for the full season next year.
The RHD is the side of pool that is getting somewhat thin, but with ASP coming soon and if Tuo can round out the top 6 for a while, there is An-Jo and couple of other longer shots in the pool yet for RHD, and I am sure they will draft another 1 or 2 this year too.
From PuckPedia...but they don't show the 160 non-NHL pro game limit (AHL)...

Where’s this growing contingent at? I feel like this guy has been overlooked all year. McKenzie had him at #14 a month ago.Unless we really fall out of the playoff picture, he’ll be gone before we pick. There’s a growing contingent of folks who think he goes top 10, and at his size, it wouldn’t surprise me.
If we’re interested in size, then Fiddler makes a lot of sense on the back end.
Up front, a guy who is starting to intrigue me is Nesbitt. What little I can find on the guy suggests he’s blossomed offensively this year, particularly in the playmaking department. There could be a lot more to him, especially if he fills out his frame, given he’s not even 185 at 6’4”. I’m really curious to see how he produces in the playoffs.
THN and dobber had him top 10 and it’s been mentioned on the prospects forum. Think some other outlets have him top 10 or at least #10 too.Where’s this growing contingent at? I feel like this guy has been overlooked all year. McKenzie had him at #14 a month ago.
