The trouble is, yes it does matter at the NHL level. That’s why the average height is 6’1” and the average weight is 201. That doesn’t exclude a smaller guy from being successful (Brad Marchand), but it seems to make it less likely. Especially when you are considering the physicality of a player as a prime attribute.
Does it matter enough to have people drooling over a guy that hasn’t been able to show a lot (right or wrong) because he’s 6’5”?….I don’t think so. But you’d be remiss to not wonder if physical play exhibited by and under average-sized player in lesser leagues can possibly be replicated against the biggest & strongest in the world.
