I really don't think the Hawks have that much of a pressing need to make a trade with a Defenseman, unless KD is trying to get aggressive and secure a big trade robbery (hard to pull off, and even harder if you're actively seeking it) by trading someone whose perceived value is higher than they are. Likely shopping KK is going to look like a position of weakness [think how your eyebrow immediately raises in suspicion if someone says "HEY WE GOT A 21 YEAR OLD FORMER TOP 10 PICK HERE, WHAT WILL YOU GIVE US FOR HIM?" about someone outside the org).

Brodie is out of here. Kuzmin/Harding are locks for the AHL. Re-sign Kaiser and Crevier and you're at 9 possible NHL Defensemen. 5 are still Waiver-Exempt [Allan, Del Mastro, Korchinski, Levshunov, Rinzel]. You can send two down at any given time and run with a base roster of 7 DMen. Someone gets hurt, and one is back, Murphy doesn't last the whole season, one is back.
Also does speak to how Hawks will likely want to at least somewhat replenish the future pool with a couple defensemen this draft because you only took Levshunov with a 1-5 round pick in the last two drafts and now everyone is in the pros with a ticking clock, which of course made sense but you'll need a bit of a fresh wave. Of course, Schaefer WOULD force the issue a bit as far as Defense because he could end up in NHL next year, although if the Hawks did take him, it would likely work better for the "logjam" if they slid him back a year. But if no Schaefer, they'll want to use some of their other picks on DMen I'm guessing.
I think if a trade opportunity comes along [NCAA guys that don't want to sign with their drafting team?], Hawks will look at it, but I don't see a need to have to make a trade and have to try and force Korchinski, Levshunov, Rinzel and one of Del Mastro/Allan into the NHL for the entire season. I know it's a lot of 1st round capital there, but Defensemen spending some more time in the AHL when a team has the flexibility for it is rarely a bad thing.
