Islanders losing Tavares. The reason being, that Tavares was going to leave, and at the point of departure he was a very valuable asset. They could have gotten some nice pieces for him.

Marner wasn't seen that way. Even if his departure was inevitable, there were many legitimate concerns about his playoff performances and style of play. That would definitely have lowered the price...many teams would have seen him as a pure rental.
