2025-26 NTDP U17 Team Selection

Nationals will conclude this Sunday, so I'd expect the team to be named on Monday.

NZ has a nice report on the camp. Meyer, Easton Johnson and Fredy Schnieder were the top performers. Apparently, Pelosi did not have a good showing whatsoever, but he made the team based on his pedigree.
"Pedigree." :D Although he is in the top of the birth year he has been getting outplayed in tournaments and camps by other kids this past year. Anyway, shame Scuds and Yakub didn't make the team.

Pretty well much.....but his showing at camp was somewhat shocking to many in attendance as they expected more. Perhaps he's a player who has peaked early and will soon (has) be passed by many.

He has been regressing since last year and if you truly studied his game I think you could see concerning cracks in ceiling potential, at the moment in time he is really just a benefactor to the early social media hype train. Nevertheless, Pelosi still a solid player who deserves to be there. Just not top of his birth year any more and I'm willing to bet it will be proven when NTDP season is up and running.

I have heard rumblings minnesota dmen carson scott, easton johnston, ben geiger and beck thoreson made the team
I just mentioned Johnson and Scott making the team in my above post. I was never told #7 or #8 because they were still undecided. I've heard good things about Thoreson recently although he didn't stand out at u15 camp. I dont know much about Geiger but I know very little about Minnesota kids in general and he wasn't at Natty camp so no chance to view him.

I'm surprised Roscoe isn't in the mix for the combination of size and skating, and pretty good skill.

from youthhockeyhub which is a mn youth based site on thoreson who I think is very good:

"The hulking Thoreson is a junior or Divison I coach's dream - big, smart, fast, and physical. As a lynchpin of a stout Moorhead blueline, Thoreson's tough to miss on the ice, listed at 6-foot-3, 170 pounds.

In addition to his physicality, Thoreson is one of the state's best puck-moving defensemen. In 23 games tracked by GameSheet this season, Thoreson has 24 assists and 29 points, for an average of 1.26 points per game from the backend."

Moorhead smoked shattucks bantam team 5 times this season. Crazy for a public youth program

the two 'nhl' dads whos kids made it eligible for the ohl draft would have been top 10 or 15 overall selections in the ohl draft as a fact check. no clue on others.

Moorheads bantam team is the same as the Blue Ox which is here at Nationals. They're 2-0 so far and are advancing. They beat the Minutemen yesterday (4 seed) pretty handily. They're real good. J Cullen is really, really good. Dozark too and Buttweiler.

Oh so that Blue Ox team is basically the Moorhead Bantam AA team? Didn't see them yet so I did not know that. That's like how the Eastern Mass Penguins is really the Cushing Academy New England Prep team in the 18U Nationals.

Yes, but the crazy difference is they are a city public youth program, not a private school. Although, i'm sure a kid or two has moved to moorhead recently if you get where i'm going with that.. haha.

Yep. I compared the rosters. Same team. I can't believe that one community can produce this team.

Yup just saw this. Other USHL tenders include Oliver McKinney & Gunnar Conboy (Green Bay) from the NTDP Evaluation Camp.

Cover of Mount St. Charles 15-O was also just tendered by Madison. Another interesting one was Ryland Rooney from Minnesota tendered by Des Moines, instead of playing Elite League or Minnesota Prep Elite League like Carson Scott he went out east and played with the Long Island Gulls 15-O for his fall hockey before Gentry. I didn't follow the 09's much this year so my knowledge is pretty limited on this group outside a few games from OHL Cup, Silverstick, etc.

Notable omissions and (perhaps) why

Ty Bergeron - Big, physical and high IQ with excellent puck skills. Issue - quite simply his skating (and his mechanics that are not easily fixable). His skating issues will really limit him at the next level. Tendered with Muskegon and a likely high OHL draft pick (hearing 2nd round).

Braiden Scuderi - drips skill, a water bug on the ice, exceptional IQ, a line driver and a fierce competitor. His exclusion really disappointed me, but I understand why. It all comes down to size (lack of) and strength. Doubtful he grows much more and is thus already physically developed and that really limits his pro upside. He was out muscled on more than a few occasions at camp. Tendered with Cedar Rapids in the USHL and he will do very well there.

Drew Roscoe - of all the players invited, he may have the best pro upside. An already massive 6'6 Dman with high end skills, many, a few years from now, will be asking WTH was the NTDP thinking in not keeping him?!? The issue - he's raw and needs to refine the way he plays the game. He needs time but with the proper coaching and development, this is a player that has the potential to be a first-round pick. Hear he is OHL bound.

Caleb Deanovich - from all accounts had a decent camp and is a good puck handler, has a good shot, is good on the PP, good on the PK; good at just about everything so why the omission? He's not really exceptional at anything and apparently that just isn't good enough to make the team over some of the other Dmen. Will be highly sought after by both USHL and OHL clubs, no idea which way he's leaning.

Oliver McKinney - See above, good at just about everything but wasn't able to separate himself from the pack. Has a firm commitment to Green Bay so I don't expect to see go that high in the OHL draft.

On the forwards end, it really looks like they picked players based on where they would insert into the lineup. They didn't want 4 first lines and it shows, as they picked players who can play different roles, as opposed to players who can only play a top 6 skill game. On the D end, there wasn't much that separated all of them.

This team should be very good.

You for sure have seen and read more about these 09's than I have this year. But I'd add to your list Anthony Timmerman. He was very good at the couple Silverstick and OHL Cup games I watched. Only kid out of that Caesar's team that was invited to the eval camp. He could have been OHL all the way behind the scenes and I'd imagine a good chunk of that team will go in the OHL draft and won't be surprised if a number of them are on OHL rosters next September.

As you know, it's never been uncommon for Michigan area kids to go that route. A guy like Santa Maria reminds of an Antonio Stranges type. Overall skilled player that just screams OHL route.

Early prediction is that this will be a strong group. hard to make bold claims like it's the next '97s, '01s, '04s but I think it'd be rather shocking it it weren't a noticeable step ahead of '07s and '08s for instance.
Yes - just from an individual player perspective guys like Daley, Meyer, Fitzhenry, Pelosi are the type of prospects NTDP hasn't seen in a while.

Will be fun to see how good this group is compared to the other nations next season when they have the various international tournaments. I think as it stands, the Finnish 09's are looking really good and the top age group from Europe based on the games I've seen this year so those games will be fun.

I realize where a play is listed as being born doesn’t equate to where they developed, so clearly grain of salt in some of these cases…but pretty cool to see the variety of birthplaces listed. Florida, Arizona, South Carolina, three from Texas.
