I dont trust players to make good and objective voting, they probably watch A LOT less games the Journalists
There is almost certainly some reputation voting by the players, but we have seen so many examples of journalists who get to vote and do so by trying to push a narrative, or so they can get attention, and some that clearly don't even know much about the sport, that I trust the player vote far more.

You can be a great player and still a loser. They're not mutually exclusive.

The opposite of loser is a winner. Would you describe McDavid as such?
Well, McDavid has “won” multiple scoring titles, multiple Hart Trophies, multiple Ted Lindsay awards, the Rocket Richard Trophy and the Conn Smythe Trophy. He’s done miraculous things, including in the playoffs. Is he a loser because he plays a team sport and has never been able to drag his flawed teams to a Cup win? If he never wins a Cup, it’ll be a shame. Name a player in the league today who has done more to earn one than he has, but has yet to achieve it? I’ll wait.

Those are things he was awarded.

Winning has nothing to do with those at all.

If team success is a factor Mackinnon should have won. Otherwise McDavid got robbed
Could easily still give it to Kuch for team success. Lost 100+ games of Hedman, Point, Cernak, McDonagh, still did well in an incredibly difficult division this year. Vegas is in the final with a pretty similar point total to Florida who was near the bottom

I think Kucherov is deserving winner but I don't like his perimeter style of play. But it is clear he have good vision and puts up points even if he is not visually spectacular like other candidates.

I don't mind Kucherov winning it, he's jad a good enough career that he should have more than one, but this does reek of McDavid fatigue among the voters. He carried the Oilers this year, more than he has in half a decade.
I dont think its voter fatigue, I think it was really a toss up and the votes reflect that. A 3 way toss up at that. Mcdavid didnt separate himself enough to be the standout favourite IMO. If Kucherov didn't miss time he would've won the AR and been the easy favourite.

Even with his missed time, he was able to be close enough in pts that it was a wash.

Edit - Also, RIP to the "anti Kucherov/Russian voter bias" narrative.

Best PPG among Russians all time in reg and post season.

Will overtake Malkin for most playoff points for a russian.

He's making a very strong case for the best Russian ever, Maybe even best European player ever.

Shame that injuries made him miss a huge chunk of games in his prime(missed 1 and a half years)
