I always hate the player of the game things in these international competitions. You just got your shit kicked in like Slovakia? Just blew a tough game to your rivals like Sweden? Here, stand next to some random dude and take a picture with some bullshit you don't want, because you're the player of the game! I would HATE that. I also don't like the anthems at the end. Personally I don't like the playing of the anthems period, although I suppose it makes more sense in international competition.

Have to say I'm very parochial about what teams I root for in these tournaments. The teams that have Rangers prospects (the higher the better) are those I want to win and the others can take a hike. So last year Canada, Czech Rep, Slovakia etc were my main teams and this year it's the United States with Slovakia second. It's not just the national anthems of the respective teams though I'm also well past those times of USA USA chants.

Gabe should have have an easy point today when he made a great pass through the crease, fooled the goalie to bite on his shot, but somehow Smith couldnt put it in the wide open net from a foot away.

Happened like 3 times so far this tourny. So yeah, the numbers might suggest he hasn't been all-world, but he should def have a few more A.

I don't mind the anthems before the games. But after the games I think this crazy to have them line up and go through that. Save it for the medal round. Otherwise when the game is over let the kids go back into the locker room.

I was watching a YouTube video a day or so ago with Mollie Walker and Brian Boyle and some other guy and Boyle was talking about the year of the outdoor game and the HBO series and said that after the Rangers won against the Flyers that day someone (from the NHL?) wanted the teams to line up and shake hands afterwards and Torts said 'f*** that. This isn't the playoffs.....let's go.' and that ended that.

I don't seem to share much with Torts in terms of general world view, but I agree with him on that. LOL.

Interesting moments in the USA/Slovakia game. Fortescue got pissed at Mesar for a lil bit of a slewfoot behind the net at the end of a play. He became ornery and next knocked Sykora into his own goalie as they were crashing the net. Funny enough, Sykora, the ever sportsman, "apologized" with a smile to Augustine. Shortly after, Sykora goes for a loose puck at net mouth and Fortescue mushes him in the face and gets a minor roughing for it (called major on ice for review because Syrkora went down on ice). I'm like, easy Fort. f*** with Mesar all you want but leave your, hopefully, future teammate be.

In regards to Gabe. He's been what he's been. Get the puck on his stick in the offensive zone and he can make a pass that results in a scoring opportunity. Nothing has changed there. His line has had problems getting the puck out of the defensive zone (this has actually been a problem at times at BC as well) which has limited those offensive ops. That combined with them being line three at best and them getting second PP time has limited his offensive output.

Again, I've never put much stock into performance at WJC in evaluation of any player's future. An aside, before the tourney, I was thinking of other comparables to Gabe and I thought of a young Brad Richards (but a winger). When he was drafted, he had the same scouting report: Slow/awkward skater, pass first with great vision and offensive IQ but question asked were his points a result of playing with Lecavalier in QMJHL. Richards proved the answer to that as no but also in his WJC appearance, he only scored 2 pts for Canada in 7 games.
