Don't see any other thread more appropriate to post this:
Personally, I'd he happy if they cancelled it altogether and stuck to the Olympics. Even if it is fun trying to predict the rosters![]()

LOL.. nailed it.that should happen sometime between 2058 and never.
If I was Finnish I would be going crazy at no best on best since 2014.Somehow I slowly lose interest in ice hockey when I know that this Finnish generation will never see it play. That's an awkward feeling. It's time to distance yourself more and more from this sport.
Then I will probably follow football more in the long term. There's a lot wrong there, but it's still better and has a lot more meaning anyway. As a German-Finn, it's not that difficult for me.If I was Finnish I would be going crazy at no best on best since 2014.
I'd be just as frustrated if I was Canadian and seeing McDavid flying around and never wearing a Canuck Jersey.
I'd be just as frustrated if I were American and have my best 'paper roster' in history and not get a chance to play.
It all sucks.... 2014 was the last real one. BRUTAL
Finland hasn't yet lost a competitive match against Germany in this century (4 games played). Then I will probably follow football more in the long term. There's a lot wrong there, but it's still better and has a lot more meaning anyway. As a German-Finn, it's not that difficult for me.![]()
Watching fed cup for my fix! Then I will probably follow football more in the long term. There's a lot wrong there, but it's still better and has a lot more meaning anyway. As a German-Finn, it's not that difficult for me.![]()
I`m sure it would be a good tournament with only USA, Canada and Russia. As it stands even Finland and Sweden have as/more competative rosters than Russia
There's no such thing as a European rink anymore. IIHF went to small rinks this year. The Olympics were played in small rinks. Worlds were played in hybrid 29 meter wide rink because the old Helsinki Ice Hall can't fit a 26 meter wide rink due to old tech.I'll discuss Finland.
The thing about Finland is that sure, they can upset great teams on any given day, we all know that. But can they upset 3-4 great teams to take home this level of championship? because that is what it really comes down to, Best on bests at the senior level in North America aren't the Skodas in a European rink, not even close.
They could possibly do it, but you have to wonder about their chances doing so. We know Finland is the best they have ever been, but world cup winning best in a Tournament in North America? Hmm...............it will be their toughest test. They came close in 2005 and on paper they will have a better team then in 2005, but they also flamed out at the last World Cup. I'd give them a 40% chance this time around,
Lot of pressure on them too, fans there expect a lot now, especially with media puffing up. They can't really go in thinking underdog story anymore, and with that comes a different type of feeling for the staff and players once games get underway, a new kind of mental situation.
We will see.
I think extraliga is still big rinks...There's no such thing as a European rink anymore. IIHF went to small rinks this year. The Olympics were played in small rinks. Worlds were played in hybrid 29 meter wide rink because the old Helsinki Ice Hall can't fit a 26 meter wide rink due to old tech.
I didn't mean rink size when mentioning that I meant home crowd advantage, sorry for not being clear there. There's no such thing as a European rink anymore. IIHF went to small rinks this year. The Olympics were played in small rinks. Worlds were played in hybrid 29 meter wide rink because the old Helsinki Ice Hall can't fit a 26 meter wide rink due to old tech.
Very true.Really likely that Connor McDavid doesn't play in a best on best tournament until he is 28 years old. This last decade is an abject failure, the lack of foresight to see why having some semblance of an international best on best schedule is important is mind blowing.
It's brutal. I'd love to see all the nations best on beat rosters. Ftr... I doubt we see it in 2025 either.Very true.
Plus, I had always been looking forward to McDavid and Crosby both playing on the same team while both were near their primes/peaks. Similar to Gretzky and Lemieux in 1987.
We will never get that though, since Crosby will be 37.5 years old by the time February 2025 comes.
