seems US College has better development this Canada
It’s the USA Hockey program as a whole, there’s a very strong focus on skills development & playing a non structured game in the neutral & Ozones

But it’s a double edged sword - w such a strong focus on creativity has come the negative of individualism, which has been an Achilles heel for Team USA to overcome in critical games

Maybe they overcome that dilemma this WJC of how to not sacrifice creativity within a TEAM first construct

Top USA Line is hot offensively but remains to be seen how they handle playing against a top team, none of the 3 are good tracking back defensively.

DOn't expect them to be challenged until Sweden.

For some weird reasons, I'm actually glad Canada lost the way they did, last year we mainly won cause Bedard was there, no Bedard this year and we see the results. Still hoping someone from the higher spheres in Hockey Canada gets a revelation about hockey development (or lack thereof) country wide, but won't hold my breath for that.

Dunno last year team was very good. Fantali is a very good player. While i'm not a fan of Wright he is a dominant junior player. Both Stankovan and Zellweger are dominating the AHL. Korchinski is playing well in the NHL for a 19 years old. Clarke and Guenther are doing well in the AHL.

I don’t know what game you were watching, but after a disastrous first period, they carried the play against a strong opponent. The loss wasn’t about them slacking off. It was about a deficit of talent. Other countries have caught up to us and when you are missing 8 of your top players due to unavailability or injury, the victories that so many here think are easily attainable may not be so forthcoming.

The Americans have caught us. Take a look at the team they have assembled for this tournament. Take a look at each NHL roster and see which players are the most talented.

We lost today, but it had nothing to do with lack of effort.

No they haven't - there are waves, always been. This year everybody was strong because of a wave of distributed talent in 2021, 2022 and a lot of old teams. We would have been young and strong, but a lot of our top 18 years old went to the NHL directly. It's preferable for the WJC team when our stars are LESS talented. If Benson sucked a bit more, we would have had one more core player.

Thus when our top players are a bit worse, they play multiple years for the team and they can come in their senior year and win the tournament. It's the same for each country, but Europeans tend to graduate slower to the NHL, and the US too because of their college system.

Next year, most countries will go down 1-2 levels and we'll go up 1-2 levels and we'll be more dominant than ever and I foresee this lasting a few years where we'll be overwhelming favorites. This version of team US is done, team Sweden is pretty old, team Czechia is a pretty old, team Slovakia is pretty old. etc. They will all reset. If anything next year's tourney will miss the Russians because they would have been the contenders against Canada.

If you look at the first rounds of the next 3 years, Canada is way over-representing vs. the last 5 years. And we are producing elite players, many of them, at all positions.

Dickinson Mews (will be important for world juniors next year)
Misa
Mckenna / Roobroek

US team defense still doesn't impress me. Unless Sweden drops the ball they'll need to score lot of goals to win.
And Sweden still haven't given up a goal yet. They play the Swiss so they might not give up any today either

Fantilli, Roy, Wright… it was stacked.

They still didn't dominate like Bedard did, who accounted for 20% of the total points of Team Canada.

On paper they still were better than this year, though, that I agree, although coaching seems to have been a particular deficiency this year, too.

But it could also be that I'm just becoming older, raving about the past and yelling at the clouds.

Most of the coaches Canada picks for the WJC are incompetents.
